Review content:
This tiny space in the same strip-mall that houses Sears Grand, Papa John's and KFC serves some of the boldest flavors in the Kansas City Metro area.
I have to admit, I'm a creature of habit so I often find myself ordering the same few dishes over and over again, but the fact remains that I do continue to order...over and over and over again.
As an appetizer, I always go straight for the Angel Wing. It's a breaded, stuffed, deep-fried chicken wing served with fabulous home-made sweet & sour dipping sauce (no ketchup to be found here...) as big as your fist, and sliced into bite-sized pieces. From what I can gather, the stuffing is made of dried black mushroom strips, breadcrumbs, chopped chicken, and various herbs and spices.
The Pad Ki Mao is the main reason I continue to make the drive to the Northland, and leave in a capsaicin-induced sweat. The liberal use of Thai Basil and the combination of the hot and sweet of this dish make it one of the best to-go dishes you'll find anywhere.
I also enjoy the Basil Fried Rice, with a flavor profile very similar to the Pad Ki Mao, and their Panang Curry, while slightly runnier than I'd wish, is still packed with a ton of flavor. They also make a Panang Curry fried rice that is great when you don't want to deal with the mess of pouring the curry over steamed rice.
Their soups are relatively average, but it doesn't detract from my 5 star rating simply because I have found their 5 star items, and have no need for anything else on the menu.
If you haven't been here before, you are doing your palate a great disservice.
Pros: Inexpensive, Authentic, Bold Flavors
Cons: Strip-Mall Location
