Review content:
For years I had Kaiser Insurance but had to make a switch. It was about 2 years ago & I tried a few new doctors without any luck. Around this same time I felt a lump on my tailbone and started having pain that radiated into my back. I spoke to my Mom & she told me it was probably a Pilonidal Cyst. It was believed to be hereditary. She and other family members had experienced this same condition at my age. I looked online & decided to call Cherry Creek Family Practice based on their reviews.
I remember my experience very well. I met with Dr. Johnson & I told him I was sure I had a Pilonidal Cyst because I had all the symptoms & it ran in my family. He QUICKLY examined my lump & told me that what I was feeling was my bone & that I was experiencing muscle strain due to me standing all day as a part of my career. He gave me a muscle relaxer, his business card & told me to call him if I needed anything.
My pain became increasingly worse over the next day so I called his office. When I called I spoke to an incredibly rude lady! I asked to leave a message for Dr. Johnson to call me. She asked what my symptoms were & told me he would call back shortly. Hours later I never heard back so I called again. The same lady told me that Dr. Johnson called in an order for an x-ray. I went into the imaging center that day only to find out that he never called in the order. I waited for over 30 minutes before they got the order. I never heard any results in the time promised so I called again. The receptionist seemed annoyed to be hearing from me & immediately told me that my x-ray showed nothing. So here are my questions:
1) If she knew the results, why didn?t someone call me?
2) Why didn?t Dr. Johnson call me to discuss the results himself?
At this point I was still in a lot of pain. Dr. Johnson never returned my calls and only communicated with me through his rude receptionist. I had never in my life been treated so poorly by a doctor & his office staff. I was in tears, not only because I was in pain but because a doctor that was supposed to offer a high standard of care wasn?t even trying to help me.
Over the next week the pain in my tailbone subsided but I continued to have lower back pain that over time moved into my hip & leg. Don?t misunderstand me! I did not trust Dr. Johnson?s diagnosis. What I did trust was the x-ray that came back negative so I chalked my pain up to muscle strain caused by years of being on my feet. Over the last 2 years I have spent tons of money on massages, I have had to call in sick to work on a consistent basis because I was barely able to walk let alone stand & had just started physical therapy.
Last week I came down with a fever along with that familiar pain in my tailbone. My lower back, hip & leg began to hurt more than it had before & that ?boney? tailbone that I was told was normal enlarged to a point that it was protruding out of my skin. I went to a doctor & sure enough the same lump I felt two years ago was a Pilonidal Cyst. It was the same cyst that has been pushing against my sciatic nerve causing extreme lower back, hip & leg pain. Growing up I have also had 2 spots on my lower back that I figured were birth marks. I know now that they are called Pilonidal dimples that result in Pilonidal cysts. OH (now I know) X-RAYS CAN?T EVEN SEE PILONIDAL CYSTS. If Dr. Johnson would have performed a more thorough exam he would have seen the Pionidal Dimples. I was clear when I told him I thought I had a Pionidal Cyst, why did he order a test that couldn?t see if that was actually the case? Instead, he shunned me, wouldn?t talk to me and ultimately it resulted in me experiencing constant sciatic nerve pain that I shouldn?t have had to deal with for the past 2 years! Cherry Creek Family Practice asks their regular patients to write rave reviews for them rather than getting reviews because they deserve them. I have NOTHING good to say about Cherry Creek Family Practice or Michael Johnson.
