My husband and I took our family from out of town to eat at Misal last night ( 3/7/08). As Indians ourselves, we were very impressed with how the place was decorated. The owner was working as a host and he greeted us with a not so friendly face. We ignored it and sat down when we were seated. As soon as we sat down a waitress brought us menus and five glasses of water and left. I asked her if we could have straws and she brought me one straw. My husband asked her again if we could have more straws and she brought him another one. Then no one came to check on us for a long time. During this long wait the owner have been going around every single table and talking to customers except to our table. Then we notice that we were the only colored customers in that restaurant. The staff and owner continued to ignore us for another 10 minutes or so. Finally my brother-in-law got tired and went up to one of the staff and said we are ready to order. Then a staff came and took our order. Interestingly, by this time people who came after us got their food. The way the owner was acting convinced us that they go their food because they are ?white? ( I?ve grown up in United States and never felt like I have been discriminated before). Twenty minutes passed, thirty minutes passed, forty minutes passed and finally my husband went up to the owner and asked him why it is taking so long for us to get our food. He said it usually takes 30-40 minutes and he asked him why those who came 30 minutes after us got their food and finished eating and left and he had no answer. After waiting for 50 minutes we were so happy and thankful to receive our food. Then the waiter brought a dessert and said it was on the house, but that was not enough not make up for discriminating against us and treating us with no respect. The food did not taste authentic at all. It was very fake and I can?t believe I wasted and hour and half of my life at this place!
