Review content:
Just got back from Duke's where we experienced a splendid ocean view, reasonable service, tastey hot rolls, and pricey dinners that were below par. A variety of fresh fish is served with a choice of seven different styles/sides an attempt at gourmet Island/fusion preparation. The chili scallop dish used fresh ingredients, bok choy, onions, pea pods, but the dish was doused in taste-destroying hot sauce..almost inedible. Served with the scallops, the shitake mushroom side was crisp and scrumptious while the ball of sticky white ice was unimaginative. Mahimahi hibachi style was TOO, TOO salty (even for a salt lover), served with udon noodles that were overly sweet, and a small side of unassuming veggies. The prime rib was generous, but tough! Again the sides of fried, shoestring onions and potatoes were better than the main course! While the atmosphere and service are pleasant, the ambiance cannot sub for good food. Perhaps, a meal at another time of day, appetizers, or the drinks should be tried before I give up on Duke's? I hope to not be disappointed the next time...until then, all others order and eat with caution. but enjoy the bird's eye ocean view.
