I find it amazing how many of these so-called parents are so quick to jump on here and complain about how their child was treated at the dentist. That they would actually display to the public just how irresponsible some of them are as parents that they let their childrens? teeth reach such a state as to require such dental procedures at such a young age. They would rather point the blame at the doctor than accept responsibility for their own lack of action. I'm especially amazed at how supposedly the doctor was so mean to their child, all the while they're sitting there watching it without saying a word. Here?s a news flash: children (as well as adults) tend to be scared of dentists regardless of how well-intentioned he or she might be. Some cry, some cry out load and even some vomit. And then there?s the child! ? But, let?s be serious. If this was really the case, then it?d fall under bad parenting to let such ?torture? take place in front of you and, even in some cases as seen below, nothing more than an opportunity to achieve financial gain. And, yes, I understand that some of the procedures necessary to control children might appear excessive to the average parent, but I don?t think you?ll meet one professional who?s willing to put all his years of schooling and experience on the line to physically abuse a child, let alone in front of the parent! Maybe if you would take some responsibility for your children and actually teach them good hygiene, you wouldn?t need to be making trips like this to the dentist. One woman states that her child had a $5,000 root canal and that she continued going back after that. I had one of these done back in the mid-90's and remember it being expensive, but nothing like this. The fact that she kept going back basically says there's more to the story than the comment displayed. Another even complained that the Doctor told her daughter she needed to brush more often in front of her. You?re kidding me right? He wouldn?t be much of a doctor if he didn?t try to impress on the child/parent steps needed to keep their teeth healthier, handicapped or otherwise. By-the-way, placing metal instruments in someone's mouth is a basic dental procedure whether you?re a child or adult. It?s not considered a torture device. I checked it out! And based on some of these extraordinary accusations, you'd be surprised how often extreme procedures are used to control ?unruly? children. I just wish they had similar procedures for irresponsible parents! Then maybe forums such as this would contain reviews that actually held weight. After all, very seldom do the good experiences get written up. It?s simply considered that the dentist did his job.
