Typically refrigerant is not added to a system without finding and repairing the leak before hand. The EPA has guidelines for leaking systems containing refrigerant that all HVAC contractors should adhere to. To us it looks like that price would include first finding the leak and then repairing it followed by a pressure test and evacuation then recharging the system with refrigerant.
That does not excuse the fact that a technician would offer to do the job on the side. I would really like to see the quote that you were given and have the name of the technician so that I can make sure we do not have a technician in the field that would do that. Any technician that is involved in that kind of behavior will no longer be involved with our company. We go to great lengths to ensure that we hire qualified technicians but also honest people, and if that is not what we sent to your home than it will be dealt with swiftly. Please get in contact with us so we can get some key information from you about this job and get it taken care of.
One sub-standard employee that exhibits terrible behavior does not mean the company he works for is terrible. I find it hard to believe that we have someone on our staff the would meet that criteria, but if we do a simple phone call from the customer to inform us that is the case would be most helpful.
Thank you for your cooperation,
Darek
