I'll denote this company as "COS". COS picked up my lawn tractor (MTD Yard Machine) for repair ($20 charge). As it turned out, the engine needed a new short block. The charge for discovering this was $60. I researched prices for a short block, and considered my options. I came into their store and looked at new units. I also shopped around elsewhere. I found the replacement short block with MTD and considered repairing the existing unit. In the end, I decided to buy a new tractor and sell the MTD. I placed an ad to sell the MTD ($200 asking price) and I bought a new tractor. A buyer contacted me who was willing to buy the MTD and take on the repairs himself. I called COS to settle up the charges ($80) and arrange for my buyer to pick up the MTD there. COS (service dept.) told me that they scrapped my MTD. Steve was rude in his tone, told me this was my fault, and that COS were within their rights. I asked why COS didn't just call me and tell me they were getting ready to scrap my unit. I got no answer to that, just a repeat of their policy and that this was within their rights. I took over a month to make my decision, and I realize that was a long time. I was unaware of their policy, and it was not stated to me verbally. At the very least, a phone call or voice message giving me a chance to respond would have been decent. I feared they might charge me for storage, but I didn't imagine they would SCRAP MY TRACTOR without even communicating with me! This is not professional or even decent behavior.
