Review content:
I stopped into GVGS to sell some gold I had in my jewelry box. I knew what it was (14k), how much it weighed (5.5 grams), and what the spot and melt price was per gram. I assumed they would offer me something reasonable (the melt value on the day I stopped was $29.73/gram which gave the gold piece a melt value of $163.52). The gentleman weighed it (was correct), tested it (was 14k), and then offered me $85.00. I asked if he could do better and told him I knew what the melt price was. he then offered me $110, take it our leave it. I told him I would shop it and went to Michigan Gold and Diamond Exchange where I was given 85% of the melt value which I thought was fair (it was also the offer I made to GVGS which they turned down flat). I would strongly recommend educating yourself on gold and how it is weighed and sold before dealing with GVGS.
