Avis has a convenient downtown location. I think the rates for cars are cheaper than at the airport. Rented a 12 pax van for a family vacation---8 adultsx12 days. Found out the internet rate was higher than the rate offered on-site. I thought this was odd but was happy about it. Van had basic amenities and was acceptable. They spotted us 2000 miles, and we used all of them plus 20----->no extra charge. Mileage was poor (13 mpg) but expected in such a large vehicle with 8 less-than-lean adults. The person behind the desk also supplied a set of chains free of charge at my request. Luckily, we didn't need them. The only drawback to the whole experience was getting the van from and back to the parking space on the roof of the building----my inner ear has still not recovered from the 20 turns.
Pros: location, price, helpfulness of personnel
Cons: Parking space for van is on roof--at least 15 turns
