When I looked for an Assisted Living Facility for my father, I understood that no place was perfect. However, the sales pitch they give you makes you believe that it is a great place, but it turns out it's all lies. And when you confront them, they lie even further. They make you pay a great deal of money for extra care that they don't give. They claim that their staff walk the floor continuously at night checking in on every resident. That couldn't be further from the truth. They have 2 people on duty for 30 residents and came into the room perhaps once a night, and sometimes, never. Even though we paid for a level 4 care, no one checked on him at night, and we had to hire our own private aide. They did not oversee his meals to make sure he ate (we witnessed one night that they forgot to feed one of the residents and if we had not been there, she would not have gotten a meal. They never ensured he was hydrated, as they claim they do. They did not clean him or change him, and when they did the laundry, they thew it on the bed in a heap and our private aide had to sort through it and hang it up, even though we were paying them to do this. We wrote a letter in January asking them to check his ankle as it looked swolen and to make sure they walked him around as it seemed to us his circulation was being impaired. They never did. It was easier to leave him sitting in a wheelchair all day and night. They finally brought him to see a doctor for his ankle (after telling me it was nothing on numerous occasions) and by that time, he had Deep Vein Thrombosis and he passed away two weeks later. They claim their staff are trained by the Alzheimer's Association, but that couldn't be further from the truth. My father was bruised constantly by their rough treatment and I personally witnessed one of their staff trying to peel his hands off a grab bar, even though we were all asking the aide to stop. He was screaming and we begged her to leave him alone and she ignored us. The hospital said he was extremely dehydrated even though they claim they have hydration stations. The main floor is pretty to look at, but upstairs, where they have the Alzheimer's patients, it is dark, gloomy and a terrible place to be. If your loved one can't fend for themselves, DON"T PUT THEM HERE!
