If you value your own well-being, or that of a disabled family member in search of housing--do NOT move into HANDS. As if watching drug deals go down in my immediate neighborhood were not bad enough, the care assistant of the mentally handicapped man who lived below me regularly used his apt. for her & her biker boyfriend's "crash pad"--& decided to turn his kitchen into a mini methamphetamine lab. I was inundated by pungent acrid chemical fumes on a regular basis, and my cat & I were repeatedly sick as a result. My cat died as a result of respiratory illness, & the downstairs tenant's cat did as well. When I informed Manager Lisa Cree about the overwhelming chemical fumes coming from downstairs, various chemical bottles, books of matches with cut off tips, & hulled out batteries I discovered in that tenant's trash bin, & the odd gray film that covered my entire unit--she could not have cared less & ignored the situation. So I made plans to move out. If you DO decide to move into HANDS however, make certain ALL of the pages are present in your copy of the lease. The Manager did not give me page 2, which states you must give 1 month's notice of moving out IN WRITING in order to get your security deposit back. Although I stayed in contact with the Manager & gave her ample verbal notice of moving out, & repeatedly asked her what I needed to do before I left--she did not tell me my notice had to be submitted in writing until 1 week before I left--& so I lost my security deposit. Lisa Cree was not happy I'd decided to leave, she knew I wanted my deposit back, & I cannot help but wonder if she intentionally did not inform me until it was too late. Furthermore, although it is illegal & constitutes fraud for two project-based Section 8 housing providers to charge a tenant rent for the same month, Manager Lisa Cree knowingly did so for the first month I moved in. And after I left, HANDS repeatedly sent me a bill for the first month I lived in Section 8 housing elsewhere. I had to have an attorney speak with HANDS to finally get them to stop. It is far too easy for people with disabilities to be taken advantage of by sweet talking, shady Management like HANDS. If you value your physical, mental, or emotional health, or that of a disabled family member, & seek safe & trustworthy housing where one can get well--DO NOT move into HANDS. My Rating: 0 Stars
