Review content:
Went to Flemings the first time last night. The food was terrific but pricey, especially the wine by the glass ($17) and everything's al a carte. Our tab came to $190 with tip.
Service was very good except we couldn't hear our waitress above the din. She tried to explain the specials and how dinners could be ordered, but we just reverted to reading the menu because we couldn't understand a word she said. I was expecting a quieter atmosphere where one could enjoy conversation but not have to shout across the table to be heard. The decor is nice and woody, but the wood ceilings contribute to the noise level. Also a bit disappointed at the dress of the patrons - I know nashville is a music town, but kids in shorts and sandals, lotsa blue jeans - i was definitely overdressed with a sport coat, and this detracted from the meal. Expected more elegance from this prime steak house - or perhaps that's just nashville. As you can tell we're not from here originally.
Steaks were very good; but I have had better (try Sam's Steakhouse in the St. Louis suburbs). Will probably try another nashville steakhouse or two before/if we return to Flemings - searching for the best steak, service and atmosphere.
Any other suggestions in nashville?
Pros: Good steaks and service
Cons: Price, noise, too casual for an expensive dinner
