Here we go again...why is it some of my favorite stores...the ones I remember fondly form my first days in Iowa City are closing? If you have any clue, let me know....
I had first visited this store years ago when I was new to the area. I always have held a secret wish...for a pair of "red boots"...silly I know but something I have never purchased for myself and now with this store closing I think my wish will always remain just that...only a wish...never to be fulfilled.
True, I hadn't been in the store for a few months, so when my mother asked me to check out this store in search of some shirts for my dad, I was a bit hesitant about running her little errand. You see my dad has arthritis and his fingers are affected, so he has a hard time with smaller buttons. A friend suggested snap front shirts (western style) to him and he decided that he would like to give them a try. Finding them perfect for him, he was recently in search of some new ones...thus my trip to WESTERN WORLD. AND since I had visited this store several times in the past 20 years, I was the obvious choice for this mission.
This store is pretty easy to find. It is on Hwy 1 next to PAULS and across the street from a small mini mall. The WESTERN WORLD sign also gives you a clue as to where it actually is ! ;-) (NOW there are huge signs in the windows advertising the store's closing...another way to find it, alibeit a sad way.
I have to level with you here.... I like western wear on my dad and have had a number of pieces myself in the past but being allergic to animals I have never indulged myself much....I guess it just didn't feel "right". I had forgotten just how much I loved the smell of this store....the smell of leather and the sight of all those bright prints is great!
Not only do they have a nice array of snap front shirts but they have jeans and of course boots! In fact they have quite a nice array of apparel available for sale. The boots, in fact, caught my eye and began a trip down memory lane....I remember now when I was a little girl wanting a pair of RED ones SO BADLY!!! Trips to a nearby store began to come back to me and before long I found myself spending a lot of time enjoying checking out this store....and searching the boot section.
So the bottom line is this. I realize this isn't the kind of store for everyone, but it is nice, clean, bright and well organized. The prices are not "wallie world" but they aren't MACY'S either......in fact I found some nice bargain prices there! Check it out for yourself......and if you see a blonde trying on some red boots....come on over and say "Howdie!"........you might just have made a new friend! :-)
***oh yeah, and try to get there before it closes....this is a wonderful store and after 34 years in business, they desire a "job well done " from us all!
