Review content:
Drs. Balaskas and Cummiskey are a husband and wife team of obstetricians, both board-certified in maternal-fetal medicine. This is a sub-specialty focusing on situations where the mother or the baby (or both) has a condition needing treatment beyond that provided for a "normal" pregnancy (diabetes, multiple fetuses, birth defects, epilepsy, AMA, etc). I went to this office for both my "high-risk" pregnancies. I am diabetic, overweight, and have AMA (advanced maternal age). Their staff and patients refer to the docs as Dr. B and Dr. C. Dr. B was my doc, but I saw also Dr. C in the office and in the hospital. Both exceeded my expectations in providing care and reassurance during difficult times. They were always available for phone calls, day or night, to answer questions and address problems. They forced me to manage my diabetes very closely so that I had minimal complications from my diabetes in my pregnancies. They do ultrasounds and non-stress testing in their own office and blood draws can be done in the same building. My son was born by emergency C-section and that was handled very well, considering it was 5 in the morning and my son's heart had stopped. My daughter was delivered by repeat c-section which went perfectly. I feel their care kept my children and me alive and healthy and know others in far more dire situations that have benefitted enormously from the care of Dr. B and Dr. C. They deliver primarily at St Mary's, but go to Spectrum Downtown when they baby will need specialized neo-natal care or insurance dictates.
