I wouldn't adopt from this place if they GAVE me the dog. I tried to adopt a dog there - they told me that they were holding her for someone else. Then a week later they called me and said they had another dog I might be interested in. I live an hour away and told them i would be there within two hours. I loaded up my dog to take her to meet the new dog. By the time I got there - she had been adopted - 20 minutes before I arrived. They then told me - sorry but we can't hold dogs. BULLSHIT. They held a dog for someone else and flat out admitted it to me. Also - my daughter adopted a cat who had a parasite back in 2007 and had never been treated for it. She just adopted the cat recently. Also they gave her a certificate for a free pet exam which she was to take to our vet. That "free" exam ended up costing her $70. Think twice before using this particular organization. I'm all for rescuing dogs and have adopted from 3 other humane societies in other states. Never had issues like this. I'll drive to San Antonio and adopt a dog before going back to Gulf Coast.
