Twenty Two years ago I was in really bad shape. I had been taking drugs since I was a child. I was given Ritalin so I’d behave, cough syrups to put me to sleep, antibiotics for my strep throat and more pills to ease my pain, not to mention laxatives, allergy shots, steroidal sprays and antihistamines, all to no avail. I continued to have more complicated health problems every year. By the time I got into my late teens my immune system simply failed and I ended up in the hospital... I was very scared. And the doctors…well they had no answers for WHY I got so sick. They just cut out my tonsils and sent me home with more drugs. My health continued to decline. Why is there such an impulse for the ‘quick fix’ of drugs and surgery in this country?
These days I no longer take drugs, but in my profession, I have the same kind of battle. Let’s face it, as a society we are ‘hooked’ on drugs, both the illegal and the legal ones. Most people don’t know that it’s the legal ones that kill many times more people than the illegal ones. The ‘quick fix’ mentality (not a true fix at all) is still common, but the good news is that things are changing. People just like you are getting smarter. I recently read in USA To-day that the pharmaceutical industry is now rethinking their strategy, because the medical profession and prescription drugs usually only deal with symptoms, and not the cause of sickness. Chiropractors have dealt with a cause for 112 years now, and have never waivered. And guess what! Now there are more visits to ‘alternative’ health care pro-viders than ‘traditional’ ones.
You see it was a Chiropractor just like myself that saved me from a life of pain and suffering. Now I do my best to help others who take a lot of drugs and get are sick all the time, as well as people with headaches, migraines digestive problems, chronic pain, neck pain, shoulder/arm pain, whiplash from car accidents, backaches, ear infections, asthma, allerg-ies, numbness in limbs, athletic injuries, just to name a few.
