Irmgard's has been THE hair salon to go to in Cumberland for more than 20 years now. Irmgard herself may have retired long ago but the young women who bought her shop never strayed from the things that made this a place where clients keep coming for decades.The place is always clean, inviting (free pastries and coffee/tea offered to clients at every visit) and the stylists are always on top of the latest trends and techniques without being too far out there (I want to be stylish not a trendsetter!). The prices are less than what you'd pay at a trendy Providence shop but more than you'd pay at the chain hair salon - I pay around $50 for a cut and color. They offer manicures and pedicures and other beauty treatments as well as the hair styling services. I've been a client of Kathy McCourt's for nearly 20 years -- and swear I'd drive 100 miles to stay with her! Why? Because she does exactly what I ask and only offers suggestions if she knows it will help me look better. In other words, I can trust her. And besides, she never, ever gossips about her clients which means I can trust that she never talks about me when I'm not there.
