Zupan's Markets

Zupans can be spendy, but it's someplace to go for that once in a while item, or a special dinner. Because you really do get what you pay for here. The staff is friendly, courteous, and the store is clean, and neat. When we decide to go out, and really impress our company, we head to Zupans. more

Zupan's is probably not where you'll do all of your regular grocery shopping, unless you live in one of those spendy lofts and are committed to downtown living with style. But for the rest of us, Zupan's is a delightful indulgence, the place to supplement your regular boring meals with the freshest produce, the loveliest flowers, the tastiest appetizers, or the most delicious meats. Spend a few dollars at the olive bar, at the pastry counter, at the cheese selection, or in the wine area, and you'll know you have a taste of the quality that makes dining worthwhile. Zupan's has a very helpful staff, and their late hours make it easy to shop at their locations. Their commitment to quality is second to none, and it's a pleasure just to cruise the aisles to see what treats are in store. Zupan's may not be the best place for everyday shopping, but it's definitely the right place to add a little zest to your everyday life. more

Zupan's is a great grocery store to go to when you want free range chicken, fresh tropical flowers, or some specialty Irish cheddar at 3am on New Years Day. It's that convenient and that specialized -- a glorious combination in a supermarket. In addition to providing daily staples, such as cereal, bananas, eggs, or milk (which seem to be more spendy than less specialized markets), Zupan's offers a variety of fine foods and fresh produce that you can't find at any old supermarket. I especially enjoy their produce department, as they tend to keep only the freshest of fruits and veggies. Their deli is also convenient when you don't have time to cook, and you can't go wrong with their fresh meats, either. more

One of the premier local food stores for top-drawer gourmet foods, but certainly not one of the premier locations for the budget conscious, you could do worse if you're in the market for that special cheese, wine, chocolate, and the like. If you haven't figured out yet, it's really expensive, but there's no denying the quality here. more

The prices here are often a bit much even on NON-fancy food items, which deters me from going here often, but the staff are generally friendly and helpful and the selection of fancy food items is pretty good. Most grocery stores will stock jalapeno peppers, but not many will stock them in three colors. Similarly, you can get olives anywhere, but if you want a choice of twenty kinds -- go to Zupan's. They have a really fabulous deli and bakery case and are open until midnight. more
