Great hometown place 12/31/2009

This place is a hometown staple. I live in Chicago now, but always try to stop here when I'm passing through, as do my siblings who live all around the country. Don't expect 5 star fare, but enjoy this place for what it is - a local hangout where you can see everyone from every walk of life. It does not look like your standard franchise place, so don't expect cookie cutter decor, but you will find nice people and good comfort food. Try the fried chicken - it is worth the calories! more

Ziggie's is a longstanding, well known family restaurant. Please disregard the other comment left on here by someone who obviously doesn't know and love this local hangout. So what if the mashed potatoes aren't real or the pop is in a can! They have awesome skillets, fried fish and my personal favorite - their fries. You always see the same faces of local families and farmers. Strangers are always welcome, so if your in the area, stop by! They're open 24-7. AND due to the new smoking law in IL, you no longer reek of smoke after dining in. more

This place is so strange that you should almost go just to witness its horror. If you order a Coke, be prepared to get it in the can, without a glass, much less ice. If you order the fish fry, expect frozen fish sticks. Mashed potatoes are fake of course, and the corn is the nasty canned variety. (The irony here is that Ziggies is across the street from the Del Monte sweet corn factory.) The ambiance is a smoky, somewhat dirty truck stop, complete with old linoleum floors and sticky chairs. It is open 24 hours a day, which is probably how it survives. more
