Zen Japanese Grill & Sushi Bar

This is by far the best sushi I've had in Boston. Far, far superior to Ma Soba, which I understand was recently voted Best Sushi. The Volcano is ridiculous and delicious. Creative menu alongside well-executed staples. I was thrilled to find this place. The only negative was slightly slipshod service, but this is a very minor complaint, and the staff is overall friendly and well-informed. more

Beacon Hill finally received a warm, friendly sushi bar in Zen. Living in the area, I find myself going into Zen quite often and every time I walk away thrilled at the experience. The food is off the charts and the chef is prepared to amaze you in ways that I have never seen at other sushi restaurants. Do yourself a favor and order the Volcano Roll (off the menu). It is essentially a spicy tuna roll topped with spicy scallops and tempura flakes. The chef adds his own unique cooking style to the dish by browning the top of the scallops with a blowtorch just enough to give the scallops a crunch outside with a warm raw middle.
