Chairs crafted in this shop have earned international recognition and can be found in the Smithsonian Institution, the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library as well as the homes of numerous governors, senators and even a member of Great Britain’s Parliament. The Woody family tradition of chair-making started in 1800 in what is now Mitchell County and thus began carving an existence from the great deciduous forests of early America. ? Arthur Woody, who was the great-grandfather of present Chair Shop owner Jim Woody, carried on the family tradition, making chairs in a shop that was located just a stone’s throw from the present location of Woody’s Chair Shop. Since then, Woody’s handcrafted chairs have been made in the same shop the Woody Brothers built back in 1946. ? Using responsibly-harvested woods native to the region, our chairs are created to last, using no nails or glue in the load bearing structure.
