Costly Purchase 10/26/2009

I'm not a disgruntled consumer, nor do I know for sure where responsibility lies - nature vs. nurture. However, I can say that the puppy we had bought ended up with blood in the poops, had an extended abdomen, and required multiple office visits to the vet. The pup was immediately put on TWO de-wormer which was different than what was given by the breeder. The vet said that the de-wormer we had been sent home with ""in case"" to prevent worms was inneffective because it was just an over the counter de-wormer. The sweetheart was given Flagyl for parasites that the vet said was a ""significant"" amount seen in the gastro tract. The little one was confirmed positive for Guardia within two days of coming home. It's been some time and still on a pro-biotic which is suppose to help get his natural stomach flura back in sync, and is on a special diet. The little one has been through so much during a time when pups are suppose to be...pups! Again, I don' t know how much fault lies with the breeder or not, but I feel like we found ourselves with just as many problems or MORE than if we just purchased through a pet store (which I would not do, but you know what I am getting at). Pros: We love the little one Cons: Had lots of problems more

Such a great dog! 10/24/2009

We had recently bought a beagle from the Winter Hill Kennel, and named it Shiloh. Shiloh is a very playful, and lovable puppy and is good with the whole family. He did have a minor kennel cough and worms in the first week and a half that we got him, but they did go away prior to the use of pills from our local vet. I highly reccomend the Winter Hill Kennel Pros: Adorable, loving, and playful puppy Cons: Minor kennel cough and worms, but went away within 12 days more

Kennel Cough 10/15/2009

I would warn against buying a puppy from Winterhill Kennel for the following reasons. We brought our adorable puppy home and all family members thoroughly bonded within a day. Then the puppy began coughing that night. We were told the puppy had a very contagious kennel cough and we had to pay $60 for antibiotics. In addition, we were told to have our other dog and cat treated as well since kennel cough is so contagious and could lead to pneumonia in the worst case. We paid $425 for the puppy. It has a broken tail, that we did not notice, perhaps indicative of bad news to come. Pros: Adorable puppy Cons: Contagious disease more

Great Kennel - Great Dog 8/3/2009

We bought Jazz, our Beardie from Winterhill. We've never had a more pleasant visit to a kennel. Leah is most pleasant and friendly, Great family atmosphere for a pup to be raised in. We've had Jazz for weeks now and he couldn't be greater. Fun, funny, curious and interesting. We highly recommend Winterhill Kennel. more

bought two amazing lab pups from Winterhill! 7/20/2009

Both of my dogs are adored by all my family and friends! They have a great personality and have NEVER bittten anyone. The breeder knew alot about the puppies relatives including grandparents and sisters, and helped us pick out a suitable crate. They always answer the phone and if they miss a call they are sure to call back if you leave a message. She answered every question i had and gave an honest opinion on all the questions i asked. Highly recommend them to everyonein the market for a new addition to their family! Pros: great, docile temperments Cons: hard to find, worth the drive! more

Great Dogs, Home grown with a country flavor. 5/9/2009

Family raised, healthy happy pups! These are great pups. I am a former animal control officer and I know what a nice well bred pup looks like. We bought our last three Pups here. I won't go any where else. The pups are given love and attention right from the start. My first Winter Hill pup is 12 years young and going strong. She has never been to the vet except for routine medical care. We also have two Winter Hill Bichons that are a wonderful and happy addition to our family. I highly recommend the Massachusetts born and raised dogs you'll find at Winter Hill. This is a breeder I trust and so can you. Pros: Family raised, healthy happy pups! Cons: Kinda hard to find, but well worth the effort more

GREAT LABS 3/20/2009

WE BOUGHT OUR DOG SADIE FROM LEAH IN 2002,2DAYS AFTER WE HAD TO PUT DOWN OUR 15 YR. OLD SHEBA ANOTHER BLACK LAB. SADIE JUST TURNED 7 AND HAS BEEN THE MOST BEAUTIFUL DOG IMAGINABLE, AND HAS THE MOST DOCILE PERSONALITY WE HAVE EVER SEEN.WHEN THE TIME COMES WE WOULD NOT HESITATE TO CALL LEAH AND PURCHASE ANOTHER LAB FROM HER. SADIES MOTHER MOLLIE LOOKS JUST LIKE SADIE AND WE ARE GOING TO TAKE HER UP THERE TO SEE HER SOON. WE LIVE IN THE GREATER BOSTON AREA ,AND WOULD SERIOUSLY RECOMMEND WINTERHILL TO ANYONE. FANTASTIC DOGS BRED IN A FAMILY ENVIRONMENT. DOGS ARE WORK AND THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE PANNED THIS OBVIOUSLY ARE LOOKING TO BLAME SOMEONE OTHER THAN THEMSELVES Pros: EXCELLENT TEMPERMENT more

Puppies 2/2/2009

My family purchased a puppy from Leah in December of 2008. We had two vets check the puppy out and both said the puppy was healthy and a beautiful golden retriever. Leah was very nice to deal with and I would not hesitate to recommend her to friends. Pros: Beautiful Dogs more

Awesome place to get a puppy! 10/20/2008

My parents bought a puppy from Leah at Winterhill kennel. It was so much fun going there to see the puppies. She let us play with them in the yard to see which one we wanted. She answered all my questions and even told me how to feed and take care of my puppy. Mom says we'll be getting another puppy from Leah soon. I can't wait to go back! more

The only place to go if you're looking for a puppy! 10/20/2008

I have no idea where the complainers are coming from. I had nothing but the best experience when I purchased my puppy from Winter Hill Kennel. Leah was both extremely professional and knowledgeable when it came to helping me with my puppy purchase. She even warned me of the, shall we say ""eccentricities"" of the breed I chose. She is always honest and up front when you ask her a question. Unfortunately, there are just people out there who don't believe that ANY ONE should be allowed to breed puppies, even if they do it properly like Winter Hill. So they find something to complain about. I wonder if the people with the sick puppy took their puppy somewhere that it contracted something? I myself went through a horrible bout of kennel cough with my dogs after bringing them to a local rabies clinic. It happens. Anyway, I would not hesitate to recommend Winter Hill Kennel to anyone who is looking for a quality, well-bred pup. Pros: Clean, professionally run, but ""homey"" place to find a great puppy! Cons: Nothing more

stupid people should not own animals 10/16/2008

lets get a few things clear. you claim you never got to see the kennel. do you have any clue as to why? of course not because common sense excapes you. let me tell you why... chances are you have been out all day going from pet store to pet store looking at all the puppies you want to ""save"" all the while viruses are clinging to you . so when you decied to go to the breeder you covered in them and you want to see the kennel so you can "" share the love"" smart woman not letting you in. you find it strange that the dogs didnt bark ... i on the other hand give her a big kudos for being able to keep the dogs comfortable enough with people they dont feel threatened to bark every time they hear a sneeze. dogs arent meant to bark 24/7. you say you didnt see a dog outside or in the house ... i say you didnt open your eyes when you looked. so you think the dogs arent socialized... again wrong all of her dogs ahve grown up around people and jer 5 children if thats not socaial well then i dont know what to tell you. dog breeders do not take to the "" free range"" breeding that farmers do.. its not normal. so i guess my point is i have always bought dogs from her and will continue to do so .\r \r and as for the person who stated shes in over her head... and she things shes a vet. you my friend are also wrong. shes never claimed to be a vet but when youve been breedng and raiseing dogs as long as she has you tend to figure out what meds work. you going to sit here and complain about a dog that was sick ... yet she did the right thing and took the dog back .. ill bet you got your money back to. like your gaurentee stated. we all think dogs living outside in the winter is horrible well think about this ... dogs were bred from wild animals who.. big shock live outside all winter with little to no shelter. there naturally not meant to live in a house with people we made them that way becuase were selfish. there perfectally happy outside. more

backyard puppymill breeder 10/2/2008

Definitely a backyard puppymill breeder. You never get to see the kennel. I thought it was very strange that you never even heard a dog barking there. I don't believe that any of their dogs are accustomed to people. I never even saw one dog in the house OR running outside. I would like to see them actually bring some of their dogs out in public. Doubt that any of them have ever had a car ride or any socialization. It is all about breeding breeding breeding and money money money. I have known others to say that their dogs were sick when they brought them home. Very sad that people go there to save money by buying a cheaper pup than at the better kennels because they probably end up spending the money on vet bills trying to get their dog back to health. Please please please consider a dog from petfinder or any rescue before you keep this lady in business. I believe she truly means well but these dogs deserve better lives. What happens to the ones that are used up for breeding? Breaks my heart to think these beautiful creatures are just someone's business and nothing more. Pros: cheaper than most breeders Cons: you get the quality you pay for more

great pup 9/26/2008

My husband finally agreed to get a pup, we decided on a lab, and began our search. we looked for months and finally found the perfect pup. We have now had him for 2 years, with no problems. we are thinking about getting another one, and winterhill will be the where we Marky from. Thanks Winterill. Pros: everything Cons: nothing more

Great place to get your dog! 9/15/2008

I bought my first dog from them two years ago and he is absolutely great! We bought our second dog a year ago and yet another perfect dog! I would highly recommend this breeder, great dogs at a great price! more

Puppy Mill Comes to mind.... 4/17/2008

Sold a puppy that by the time got home was wheezing and coughing. Immediatley took the dog to emergency room because we have other dogs in the house. They said dog had late stages of pneumonia and was really sick. Called kennel who took dog back. The Kennel owner is in over her head and thinks she is a vet. She told me she would give the dogs some antibiotics and it would be fine. She keeps the dogs outside in a kennel in the cold winter months.\r \r For some people it's all about profits. It seems this way with this kennel. the ""We care about dogs"" attitude is fake and phony. Cons: Puppy Mill more
