In response to the reviewer 'noordale': please accept our apologies for the scheduling difficulties and delay in responding to your review. (This page does not allow for direct replies like Tripadvisor or Yelp so it took us a while to figure out how to address it.) We had a very trying year due to prolonged aircraft maintenance (engine swap) which resulted in a backlog of bookings. We were since able to clear this up but the helicopters were working 7 days a week, requiring more maintenance than usual. In our world many things fall under 'routine maintenance' and even the smallest problem must be taken seriously. This is the reason why we've been able to maintain an 11-year outstanding safety record. \r Rest assured that it was never our intention to ruin your special day. We realize that multiple cancellations are very frustrating so we made some changes to our booking policies in order to be more accommodating. As part of this effort, customers who weren't able to get on the schedule for their flight lessons were offered free upgrades (not upsells) to NYC helicopter tours that is a higher-value package and done on different aircraft. That offer still stands and we hope to fly with you in the near future. \r Sincerely, \r Wings Air Helicopters more

bought a Groupon for a private helicopter lesson from WingsAir in March 2013 as a surprise gift for my husband for Father's Day. After calling to schedule the appointment for June and then confirming the appointment, I was told the day before Father's Day that the helicopter was down for routine maintenance and they wanted to reschedule. I asked them why they didn't tell me sooner because I had confirmed the appointment and they knew it was supposed to be a surprise for Father's Day. Not only were they unapologetic, they tried to upsell me on a more expensive package!\r I reschedule for July and again, the day before, they cancelled due to ""routine maintenance issues"". We rescheduled for the 3rd time in October for my husband's birthday and just got an email today - ""routine maintenance issues"" AGAIN since March! \r I have serious doubts about the safety of their aircrafts and think their customer service is horrendous. They have no issues cancelling flights with very little notice because it doesn't suit their schedule or availability. Definitely WOULD NOT recommend doing business with them! \r more

If you’re thinking of just taking a Discovery Flight – stop thinking and DO IT! It’s probably one of the most fun things you will experience. \r \r If you are thinking of coming to Wings Air for helicopter training, I highly recommend it.\r \r I was fairly certain I was going to sign up for 25 hours of training when I came in for my Discovery Flight. I was not disappointed! I have since logged in about 28 hours of flight time. My experience here has been excellent. This is a very well run operation and the Wings team creates a professional and friendly environment. \r \r The CFIs (Brett, Stuart and Spencer) are first-rate! They are highly skilled, knowledgeable pilots who hold students to a high standard from the very beginning. I’ve only had flights with Stuart and Spencer so far and can attest that they are two of the bravest, most patient men I know. They are not only proficient pilots but outstanding teachers, as well. \r \r The aircraft are well maintained and as a student, you will verify this for yourself before every flight. Although the Schweizer 300C is not the most popular helicopter for training, I think it’s a great one to learn on. The throttle may be perceived as just one more thing you have to think about (at first), but it’s better to get accustomed to it in training than try to manage it later if you fly an ungoverned aircraft (or if the governor fails, although I’m sure that’s quite rare). \r \r Although learning to fly a helicopter is a formidable expense (and since I’m not rich, I have to work to finance it), this experience is definitely worth it! \r more
