good fish, better price 3/22/2006

I go to Wholeys for all my seafood needs. They have some of the freshest fish around. When it comes near Christmas time and I have to buy a lot of fish, I always go here. The prices they have for crab legs are some of the cheapest around. They also have mussels that are really good and if you catch them on sale they are dirt cheap. They also have their own little fast food place inside that makes great fish sandwiches. more

Fresh Fish Anyone 2/26/2006

One of the landmark stores in Pittsburgh's famous strip district is this place. Hundreds of fresh fish displayed on ice on the fish counters which are brought in fresh everyday. The store is very narrow, but many times the people line up outside just to get inside. Known for their famous fish sandwich, they have an upstairs sit down area to enjoy your lunch. They also have meats, poultry, and many other grocery items. Prices are very competitive with the ;larger grocery chain stores.(And their products are fresher!) This store definitely has your fresh fish smell to it, so beware if you don't like to smell fish. This is a must stop place if you are ever in Pittsburgh. more

Fantastic Fish Market 2/8/2006

Wholey's Fish Market is a fantastic place to find the freshest fish and the largest selection of seafood in the Pittsburgh area. In addition to the extensive fish, they have an impressive meat counter, a ton of cheeses, and your standard grocery store goods. This place is hopping on the weekends, when folks from the suburbs come into town to do their shopping, so be prepared for check out lines. They've also got an upstairs restaurant where you can get their famous, enormous fish sandwich. It's a great market, but be just be warned; it definitely smells like fish! more

Fresh seafood at it's best 10/8/2005

Classic Fish Market Atmosphere, Great Prices 9/22/2005

This place is really great. I feel like I'm in Seattle or by the sea somewhere in New England when I shop here. THey have fresh seafood of every type at low prices, especially when they run specials. I love the haphazard, busy, crowded feel of the place. There are aquariums with live fish - great for keeping the kids entertained as well as aisles of other grocery items from meat to cheese to coffee to produce. There is a small eatery that serves a delicious fish sandwich. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because parking can be a nightmare. Also, don't stop by if you're in a hurry, the place is usually very crowded and check-out lines get quite backed up. more

Freshest fish in Pittsburgh. 8/16/2005

Wholey's Market is located in the Strip District and has an excellent selection of fresh fish and seafood. Anything from Yellowfin to trout to Alaskan King Crab to clams and mussels. Lobsters. Wholey's is open 7 days a week and has prices that are hard to beat. Much better selection and quality and prices than Whole Food's. Canadian Snow Crab was $3.99/lb. They also carry chicken and meat, but it's a much smaller operation on that end. There are always specials going on, and the place looks like a miniature version of the now defunct NYC fish market. more
