Let me start by saying that I've been in the wedding industry for the last 25 years, I am a wedding photographer, so I've seen a lot of wedding rings and worked with many jewelers. Unfortunately, that didn't help me from being taken by this ""jewelry company"" in the Jewelry Exchange Building Downtown. We are pretty new to the San Diego area, so we didn't have a referral. I have posted a photo above of my mess of a ring they made, it's the ring with a hole where the stone should be. It also has a crooked/uneven little bar joining the two sides. BEWARE, this place only guarantees their custom rings made for three months. I had my wedding band made here by ""Darin"" last June. He used my diamonds from my original wedding ring. After just 3 months, my diamond fell out of my ring. I was lucky because I found it in the bottom of the shower. I took it back and he fixed it. I figured it was a fluke. Then about three months later, another diamond FELL OUT. (There were six total) This time it was lost. Obviously, I was upset these were the diamonds from my original wedding ring. How lame is that?? This place is super inconvenient with lack of downtown parking and short hours. Anyway, my hubby and I went today, I just wanted him to give me another stone (diamond) and I would have the work done at another jewelry store at MY expense. I had lost all faith in this place. Darin... totally flipped out! He told us ""It's just jewelry"" about 3 times at the top of his lungs and then said it was probably MY fault and that he only guarantees his work for 3 months. Then he said that was the ""END OF CONVERSATION"" and told us to leave. Wow! I had taken my wedding band that I had for 23 years, and paid him to make a wedding band.. one that now has a hole in it where my diamond should be-- AND be subjected to his verbal abuse? This young man is way beyond rude, not only was he was verbally abusive, he clearly doesn't even know how to make a simple wedding band. They did not EVER disclose this 90 day warranty. When I looked back as we left, Darin's mother was cowering by her desk. Honestly, this place is just plain CREEPY. more

This great small business gladly took in my engagement ring to be resized 3 days before my wedding. I had not worn the dang thing in over a year because it was over a size too small but that was swiftly remedied at this shop! They resized my ring from a 9 3/4 to a 10 1/2 in no time at all. They also recarved the bottom of the band (where the extra size was added) so well that I couldn't even tell where it had been altered. And did I mention that they did all of this for ONLY 13 bucks?!?! I was so pleased I went out of the shop laughing and flashing my bling like a madwoman. I brought in two pieces of couture costume jewelry that needed both repairs and enlarging. David, an expert craftsman, made moldings of one of the pieces that needed to be enlarged. It matched perfectly. I'm so pleased. He did other work and I couldn't be more impressed. This assignment was no small task, and it was done at a price which was better than fair. I will return... Pros: Great value, but better was the workmanship. Cons: Not many, parking is tough and they're not open weekends. more

Located in downtown San Diego in the Jewelry Exchange building is the family owned business of Wechsler and Goodman. I have been coming to them for over 10 years now for appraisals, repairs, re-sizing, and custom designs. They also do re-strining of necklaces, engraving and can replace missing stones and diamonds in settings. They do a phenomenal job and are very affordable. \r I have been going to them for so long that I was unaware of how much money other jewelers charge for some of these, rhodium plating for example. This is when they can make a piece of yellow gold jewelry look like white gold or even platinum. This is great if you now wear only white gold or received something as a gift. A friend of mine was quoted $100 for a ring of hers but when I took the same ring to W&G it only cost $15! This is only one example of how much money you can save.\r So,don't sell it - restyle it, reset it, change it from yellow to white... and it will look like a whole different piece of jewelry. Pros: Price, Attention, Workmanship, Friendliness Cons: Parking is a little tough... but lots of metered parking in the area makes it easier. more

\r David Nightingale at Wechsler & Goodman has created wonderful jewelry for me for 15 years! They also do perfect repairs and settings, and are absolutely reliable. I've recommended to friends and had similar feedback from all--can't miss with them! more
