Voyager Marine

The experience that Andrew had with his new outboard motor was unfortunate. When he brought it to Voyager Marine for service, Nissan was contacted immediatly and the ""pre-inspection service"" was required by them before any warranty work would be authorized as the motor was purchased via the internet. Upon inspection the carburetor was found to contain contaminated fuel which looked like it had oil in it. The fuel system was cleaned and the motor test run. After returning to Andrew he had the same problem the next day. Nissan was again contacted, this time they admitted that they had a batch of bad fuel hoses that were contanimating the gas when left sitting for a periond of time. The fuel system was again cleaned and the hose replaced. When Andrew came to pick up the motor it was test run for him in a tank on the shop fuel. However it would not run properly on the gas in his tank. This was repeated several times for him but he could not accept that his gas was bad and took it personal. more

I purchased a brand new 9.8 horsepower Nissan outboard motor. I opened the box and attempted to run the motor in a water tank. It would not start. I went to the Nissan web site and found Voyager Marine (Alviso, CA near San Jose) as the closest service shop. I spoke with the owner Gene who immediately wanted to charge me for performing a pre-delivery inspection. I did not ask for a pre-delivery inspection. I just wanted my motor to start. He obviously was not happy because I bought the motor for much less on the internet. I then called Nissan who called Voyager Marine and said the service would be covered by the warranty. Nissan provides excellent customer service. I then dropped off the motor at Voyager Marine. I called back 10 days later when I did not get a response. The diagnosis was that oil was in the carburator. Gene attempted to get me to pay for the service stating that I must have laid the engine in the wrong position. I did not. Extremely poor customer service. Blames the customer when they can't diagnose the problem. Accused me of using old gas. When I offered to show a receipt showing I bought just enough gas to fill the gas can, the owner actually replied that I must have bought the gas afterwards to cover my mistake. Totally not true. Also kept asking for payment for services after receiving payment from the manufacturer under warranty. Also tried to bill me for ""pre-inspection service"" so they could be paid twice. more
