Volente Beach

Calling Volente Beach a "water park" is like calling Jack in the Box a "fine dining establishment." If you were to take the Schlitterbahn water park and divide it into, say, 200 pieces, then one of those pieces would be the size of Volente Beach The scam begins when you park, because you pay $5 to park in a dirt lot in the middle of nowhere, when in fact there is plenty of other parking if you just drive around a bit. We purchased ticket at The Randalls’ Grocery store for 16.23 each! And yes one of those tickets was for my 9 year old who was considered an adult because of her height of 48”. This place has one pool for young children, one for everyone else, and four relatively short and unimpressive slide-like things that are fed by a single staircase. The pool for older kids has exactly one slide that is three feet long. Oh, and they have something they call a "beach," which is some sand that they hauled in that overlooks a bunch of rocks, steel cables, broken glass, and one of the less attractive parts of the lake. And that, my friends, is Volente Beach. Even though the place wasn't that busy when we went, since there is essentially nothing to do everyone crams into the pool. It was nearly impossible to move around -- don't even think about swimming - and the water was disgustingly filthy, pumped directly from Lake Travis. When my girls went more than about six inches underneath the water, I could no longer see them. For those of you, who are parents, think about how much fun that is - to have your child disappear under filthy water with hundreds of people around. And, the fun doesn't stop; you then get to worry for weeks, wondering exactly what your kids may have caught from that filthy Lake Travis water. And just when I thought it could not get any worse, a lifeguard told my daughter that even though she was tall enough to go down the Texas Twister she did not weigh enough (100 pounds). She was traumatized; she had been down the Texas Twister all morning and thought she had broken the rules. The sad thing is that she had been the only one singled out and several children less than 100 hundred pounds went after her. When I asked why those children had been allowed to go down the Texas Twister I was told by one of the Lifeguards that if the children lie to them (the lifeguards) then they have to let the children ride. This same 9 year old, who is the type who could have fun just about anywhere no matter what, aptly summarized the place as "boring." There was little for her to do there, and quite frankly there isn't much for anyone of any age. I totally regret having gone there, even though I read other reviews that were negative. Trust me: Save your money and go somewhere else. more

This place is a huge disappointment. It is expensive (anyone over about 5 years old pays adult prices) and, most importantly, THERE IS ALMOST NOTHING TO DO! We left after a short period of time because the kids we bored. There is a place called RockN River in Round Rock that is as good as this dump but only costs a few dollars. Or, pay a few dollars more and go to Schlitterbahn. But, seriously, stay away from this place. Pros: The lifeguards are attentive Cons: Most everything: cost, poor maintenance, nothing to do more

Great place if you need somewhere reasonable to spend the day for younger kids. they have a few rides and you can definately keep your eyes on what the kids are doing. Pros: small waterslides Cons: not much for older kids more

Do not go to Volente Beach if your child is older than 8. There are only two rides for older children. The rest of the park is for toddlers. During a drought, the lake is so low that you can barely access it from Volente Beach. There was no "beach"...only rocks that led down quite a ways to an extremely shallow and small swimming area. It is impossible to enjoy the lake from here. I'm sure that is not the case when the lake is full. On a Saturday, concession stands closed at 6. Trash cans were never emptied, providing an attraction for hundreds of bees. The grounds were dirty and not maintained. The rides looked like they could use a good coat of paint as well. Since you couldn't sit by the lake, I had to sit by the kiddie pool while my kids rode the two rides. The chairs by this pool were worse than something you would get at the Dollar Store. Very flimsly and unfomfortable. And I was buzzed by bees the entire time. We paid $55 for three of us, and my kids were bored with this park in less than one hour. I can't emphasis enough that there are only two rides for kids over the age of 8. Take advantage of their after 4:30pm half-price specials as the price goes down to $10.99. My family and I have gone to Volente Beach once on our own and twice at a company function. We were unhappy with the outrageous prices, terrible food, and bad customer service. At our last function the food came out 2 hours late and was almost inedible. We asked for a refund and they offered free pass to the park for another day. Why would we want to go back to a place that we did not enjoy?? They have a NO refund policy which in my opinion is not great customer service! more
