I'm so glad I found this place! With so many Italian restaurants around, it's hard to find a great one. Volare gets it right. If you want to indulge, get the gnocchi - I like it with pesto. It's the best I've had (including Italy). Homemade, melt-in-your-mouth gnocchi. Alfredo and vodka sauces are also excellent. Skip the desserts, though. If you live closeby, they will deliver for free (much better than the high fees charged by DiningIn). And if you decide to go- make a reservation, especially on the weekend, and try to eat late (you'll still wait, but not as long!) more

Great food! 4/13/2006

My experience with this restaurant has been very positive. Even with a reservation, be prepared to wait a long time for your table. But I can honestly say that it is well worth the wait. The prices are reasonable, the food tastes great, and the portions are generous. The owner is always there greeting the regulars by name. Has a very nice neighborhood feel to it! more

Best Italian food in Chicago! 3/26/2006

The best Italian restaurant in Chicago by far is Volare. It's kind of hidden, although still very close to Michigan Avenue, and is definitely a cozy atmosphere. Nights are very busy and you might have a hard time getting a seat, but it is well worth the wait. Prices are reasonable (about $12 for a plate of pasta) and the servings are huge. The best meal there? Caesar salad, gnocchi with vodka sauce, and tiramisu! Service is usually great, although my one complaint is that even when you make a reservation, getting seated still tends to take a while. I definitely recommend coming here, either for a date or for a group dinner! more
