Best

We went to Virgilio’s with another couple for their New Year’s Eve winner pairing dinner. I have been to a few wine dinners but this was by far the best. We started with a aperi...

If you are in luck and the kitchen is "on" you are going to enjoy this place. If not you just entered the "Pizza Notzi" zone. This is when the drive over isn't worth it. I do...

Coasting on Old Reviews, Owner is Tacky 3/8/2011

This used to be such good pizza. Now it’s coasting on old reviews. We used to drive out and pay $$$ for this pie often. The food here has really changed. If you have been eating it all along, you may not have noticed. But, last weekend we felt as if we’d bumped into a friend we hadn’t seen in awhile to find him 60 lbs heavier, unshaven and rude. Twice now, we’ve made the trip out to treat ourselves to what we thought would be another great pie. What a disappointment. The sauce, compared to its former richness, is very thin, watery, and without much in the way of flavor. Servers disengaged… Crust soggy… yuck. This owner is a piece of work too. Picture “Italian mobster” type with the language to match. We had signed on to receive emails about events and specials. What we get is this defensive owner constantly rallying support for situations where he feels wronged, or boasting about some “big” charity contribution, etc… (He even has one gigantic check for what he apparently considers a large sum of money hanging in the dining area! Overcompensating?) Once, when getting an update on the delayed opening of the new Littleton location, he mentioned how unexpectedly pricy the wine bar was getting but that it would be worth it. The latest tacky email was a surveillance video of some dine-&-dashers who skipped out on a $70. tab. The video is peppered with the owner’s crude comments. In the end he tries to pass off the notice as trying to protect the children of this dasher when he is clearly out to catch and humiliate him. All restaurant owners have had to deal with ding-&-dashers at one point or another but honestly, when was the last time you received a video alert about it? He might think about emailing out a coupon or two to his loyal customers instead. And the unpaid bill… $70. + tip. Since when does it cost $84. to treat one adult and two children to pizza? I suspect recent good reviews to be contrived by an owner who has taken his loyal customer base for granted because this pizzeria has lost its “stuff.” more

Pizza is the best, but dont stop there, Knots, Pinwheels, Fresh Hot Mozz 4/18/2007

We finally made it to Virgilio's Pizzeria from the Dec issue of 5280 Top New Restaurants. I just love this place, it was very busy on a Friday night but the staff and owner moved people pretty well. We tried everything on menu. The Spinach Pinwheels, Garlic Knots, Fresh Hot Mozzarella, Salads, Pasta, and Pizza. All I have to say is "AWESOME". What a meal, nice music, nice wine, great food and hard working staff made this a wonderful night. more

Wonderful Place, Best Pizza and Knots 3/31/2007

Virgilio's has the best pizza in Denver period!!! I have been going there for 1 year now. I tried them all Anthonys, Bill Bills,Protos, Nicolos, The Oven. nobody comes close. Here is why, I have never in one year not seen Virgilio at the store. The poor man is going to kill himself, but no one is prouder of the product he serves. Not only is there pizza the best, all there food is fantastic. God Bless You!!!! more

Great, Great Pizza!!! Best in town 3/23/2007

Huge slices that remind me of the Jersey Coast. The sauce and cheese are the best I have had in 8 years in Denver. The garlic knots, stromboli, spinach pinwheels, and homemade fresh mozzeralla are awesome. Nice little place, almost packed every night so go early or doing the week. My favorite place to eat. more

Best Pizza in Denver 3/14/2007

Found Virgilio’s from 5280. I ordered a 18” cheese pie, after one bite I knew this was real NY Style Pizza!! Real brick ovens not like Big Bills and Lil Ricci’s who claim real NY pizza but cook on a conveyor oven. The cheese, sauce, and crust brought back childhood memories. Since then I have tried the garlic knot, spinach pinwheels, stromboli, and the homemade fresh mozzarella (wow). The place is clean and warm, the game is always on and the owner was there on every occasion make sure our meal was perfect. The restaurant is small so be prepared to wait on the weekends. I go during the week, which is normally no problem. Best New York Pizza in Denver if not the West Coast. more

Best New York Pizza in Town 3/10/2007

I came by Virgilio's Pizzeria at Festival Italiano in Belmar. The line was 45 min for a slice? What gives I said. I asked people who eating was it worth the wait? 100% of the people said yes. So I waited as the help and the owner were working hard to feed the crowd. When I finally made to the front they just received a new batch. I tried the cheese, white with garlic and basil, meat lovers. WOW!!! I tried to talk to Virgilio to find out more info on his awesome pie, but he was way to busy. I finally made it over to the store and had a fresh pie. My God in Heaven!! I finally found pizza in Denver I said to myself. The garlic knots are off the hook, along with the spinach pinwheels. If your a pizza junkie, this is the place for the best pizza in Denver. more
