Will never go here again they only care about how they can manipulate people out of their money. I went there with a puppy that had already had multiple seizures within a short amount of time and was very lethargic. After they took the puupy to the back they said his vitals were good and neurological tests were good making it seem like he was going to be ok. They said they wanted to run more tests and said I needed to leave a $400 deposit after I did that the y called me a half hour later to tell me he needed to be euthanized. I went back to the hospital where they had me wait for hrs while they kept him in an o2 chamber charging me $71/hr, again the dog was in very bad shape. They ended up charging me $733.00 for a dog that was never going to make it anyways and then told me that I would have to pay another 300-400 dollars to euthanize and dispose of him. When they gave him back to me he was in just as bad shape as he was when I took him in there, it did not appear that they had done anything. They said they gave him a valium for seizures but he had another within 5 minutes from leaving there. I ended up taking him to animal control where they euthanize sick animals for free. When I told animal control of the ordeal he told me that the vet should have known with a puppy of his age (8 weeks) that he would never had survived that many seizures and if my some miracle he had he would have always had problems. They manipulated me out of alot of money and did nothing for my sick puppy. I would never recommend them or take another pet to them, I hope one day they will get what they deserve for manipulating people out of their money and playing on their emotions when it comes to their pets. more

We took our dog to this vet with a condition where his chest was filling up with fluid. After multiple visits, several scans, and drainage of the fluid, we were told that the dog might live through the weekend based upon a growth in his chest that was pushing on his heart. They offered us the option of putting him down immediately, or taking him home to ""say goodbye"" for his final weekend of life. We opted for the ""goodbye weekend."" That weekend turned into a week, and then two weeks, and then a month. more

knowledgeable, compassionate vet and staff 3/30/2012

My dog received exceptional care at VSH. We had called ahead, and there was no wait-time. Records from her primary vet had already been transferred over by the time we arrived. Every staff member we met, from the front desk to the nurses, was incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and compassionate. We had the pleasure of seeing Dr. Waddle, who was amazing. He spent a good deal of time examining my dog and answering all my questions. My dog is typically very anxious with vets, but (much to my surprise), she was calm during his exam. Follow-up was exceptional. We received all lab test results and specific recommendations, as did my primary vet. I found the price to be a bargain, considering the excellent care we received. I will absolutely return should my dog need after-hours care. more

Compassionate and Professional 11/17/2011

After our cat fell ill, we took him to VSH. Our sweet cat was a big part of our family and we loved him dearly. It was a really difficult time and the team here was incredibly compassionate. They all instantly fawned over and loved him and made us feel confident that they were going to take very good care of him. We were invited to the back area to see where our kitty would stay, again, adding to our comfort level and we were welcomed to come visit him often. We were also impressed that the nurses' station was set up square in the middle of the room where the animals are kept; giving the nurses a clear, close view of all the animals. Another facility we went to in N Raleigh kept the animals down the hall and behind a closed door; away from the caretakers and nurses which was a bad sign and really sad. Our beloved kitty didn't make it and the doctor at VSH could not have handled a tough situation any better. She was patient, caring and made a gut wrenching time for us as bearable as she could. We even received a sympathy card and they hung an ornament with our kitty's name on their Christmas tree. We did find VSH was a bit more expensive then the N. Raleigh Vets and yes, you do have to pay upfront, it is a business, but I wouldn't hesitate to take a pet there again. more

Awesome vet with 24 hour emergency services! 8/23/2011

I love this place. They treat your animal with love and respect and don't ""over sell."" I would highly recommend them both for emergencies and general vet care. more

Go elsewhere 4/1/2009

We went to the Cary location and while the facilities were impressive the exorbitant costs and complete lack of follow-up were not. Pros: Facilities Cons: Outrageously expensive, no follow-up whatsoever more

Dr. David Lee was very arrogant and unfeeling. 2/18/2009

Veterinarian was very arrogant, seemed very unfeeling. I had my dog in for an initial consult for surgery. Dr. David Lee was the surgeon that I had my appt with. He didn't answer any of my questions clearly. Kept saying that dog needed surgery. Wouldn't discuss any other options. My dog had been lame for a month or so, and I believed he just needed stronger medications than at his regular vet. Dr. Lee wanted to operate on his leg, but wouldn't at all discuss medications. I realize he may not have thought this to be a good option, but he wasn't open to listening at all. I ended up going to NC State where they started him on a regimen of stronger meds than at my regular vet. My dog is doing great after only a few weeks. I would not recomment this ""specialty"" vet to anyone. Stick with you regular vet, or go to NC State. May take longer for an appt, but at least they'll listen to you. more

Not recommended for specialty vet care. 3/8/2007

Vet care was far below average for a specialty referral clinic. Front desk personel were not competent. Long waits in the clinic as well as on the phone. Staff was not able to provide clients with important updates of patients that were admitted to the clinic. Return calls were promised but never performed. The only efficient personel were from the billing department, who were able to provide daily detailed updates of the costs. Pros: location Cons: many (see description) more
