Best

Easily the best place for brunch. I was lucky enough to get in here with a friend and everything we had was out of this world. Their take on food is intelligent and creative. If y...

Worst

the place is nice, but if you're going for food, go elsewhere. not only was it overpriced, it was not very tasty. I had one beef skewer for $8, which sounded tasty on the menu,...

Loved it! 8/1/2003

Dinner last night was wonderful. 2 of us had Black Angus steak and they swore it was one of the best steaks they had ever had. I tried the Salmon with heirloom tomatoes and was in heaven. The Spring Rolls and the Chocolate Souffle (order 30 minutes in advance) are definite standouts. I was looking forward to a glass of Conundrum and was disappointed to find they were out of my favorite wine. But they made up for it nicely by providing a delicious substitute, on the house no less! By all means, go.....wonderful food, fun outdoor dining, and a great staff that actually smiles! Pros: Inventive Food, Friendly Staff, Location Cons: Cramped seating, Pretty Spendy, Smoke from bar more

VQ underated!! 6/16/2003

Ocassionally i visit the VQ and always find myself enjoying it. The setting is romantic and the food is wonderful. The wait staff is comforting as well, and always seems to reccomend something amazing. The bar makes great mimosas too! more

Snootsville 6/6/2003

I have to admit, the patio is a very nice place to sit and have a glass of wine, but unless you enjoy snide comments and contempt sneers from waiters, you might go someplace else. Nothing ruins an otherwise pleasant night out than being made to feel guilty for making your wait staff actually wait on you. Pros: Nice Patio Cons: Rude staff, Snobby staff, Lazy Staff more

Go for the less expensive dishes 4/29/2003

The flank steak was ample, tender and juicy. The pizza appetizer seems to be the one to get, while the dinner ravioli entree was too pricey for what you get. Had the chicken entree for lunch, which was so-so. High quality bread and butter. Good drinks, average service and a nice atmosphere. Pros: pizza Cons: chicken for lunch more

Killer Patio, Makes Portland Great! 8/27/2002

This outdoor patio on the Willamette River is wonderful! It's completely shaded, so you never have to worry about sitting in the hot sun, but open, so you feel like you're in a park. This patio fits right in with Portland's style of a city situated in it's natural environment of green grass and shaded trees. more

Not too shabby! 8/14/2002

Every time I head over to V.Q. one word comes to mind. Patio! Outside seating is highly recomended and there is lots of room to spare! The bar has a stuffy outdated feel to it. Service can be slow at times, but the servers are friendly and quite frankly some of the best in town. The menu changes per season, and is quite diverse. Eat before the kitchen closes otherwise go elsewere! The bar menu stinks. Small diverse wine menu is worth a look. And don't forget to sit outside! Pros: Patio seating., Friendly Staff., Chimmay. Cons: Grumpy Bartenders., virtually no parking., Mildew smell inside. more

STAY AWAY!!! 8/14/2002

The VQ has a cool location and outdoor patio, but no physical location can make up for the piss poor service and crappy attitude of the staff. The food is good, but please, not that good. There are plenty of restaurants in Portland with MUCH better food and MUCH better service. This place seems to not care whether the customers have a pleasing experience or not. Personally, I'd rather spend my dollars elsewhere someplace that recognizes the fact that customers are PAYING for a service. Pros: outdoor patio Cons: rude staff, poor customer service, attitude more

pleasant atmosphere 7/23/2002

The food was excellent. The waitstaff was decent, but they didn't suggest any wines to accompany our meals. Fabulous desserts. Pros: excellent food, good location Cons: small dining room, small kitchen more

Worst Ever!!! 7/4/2002

Worst dining experience we have ever had. Witnessed the manager in a screaming match with a large party who waited over an hour for their table and decided to leave. This guy was such a JERK, and instead of being accomadating and apologetic to them, he chose the rudest possible way to handle it. The whole restaurant came to a standstill to see what the commotion was, so we did not have our meal in peace nor did anyone else. He had the party in tears!! more

Go Elsewhere for food 6/15/2002

Recently went for dinner with a friend and with the nice weather we wanted to sit outside. VQ's patio is a nice setting, despite the constant roar of TriMet buses. The food was not good though. I had the Thresher Shark special and not only was this usually nice peice of fish dry on the outside and raw on the inside, it had tough strands, almost gristle-like, running through it. It was basically inedible. Pros: Outdoor Patio Cons: Smoking on patio, Food more

full of itself 5/29/2002

the place is nice, but if you're going for food, go elsewhere. not only was it overpriced, it was not very tasty. I had one beef skewer for $8, which sounded tasty on the menu, but was vinegary and not well paired w/the other sauce on the plate. nobody in my party was very satisfied. for that money, you could get good food at zinc or paley's. more

good for lunch 5/26/2002

I frequented VQ quite a lot when I worked in the area for lunch. They have a wonderful portobello mushroom sandwich and it is reasonably priced. However the few times that I have dined there in the evenings I've been very disappointed. The service is spottier for the most part. The crowd is not as much to my liking either at night (obviously this is a personal preference however). Too many 80's throwback types. Cons: good sandwich more

the patio 5/16/2002

The patio is by far one of the nicest in town. It feels so urban for little ol' Portland. I agree with some of the others, though. Service is slow (unless, of course, you're in the bar with only the best professional pourers). The late-night menu is a plus. more
