Comfy little salon, great haircuts. 6/18/2007

I needed a new hairstylist so after serious consideration I decided to bite the bullet and make an appointment. After showing her a picture Ruthie started to work on my hair. She washed and cut my hair and then Maribel dried and styled it. It was exactly what I wanted. Bouncy and wavy and affordable. There aren't very many places that'll give you hair commerical hair for under $50, which is why I'll definitely go back. more

I use to frequent the greatest hair stylist/colorist in the city...then one day I called to make an appt with her and the owner simply tells me she no longer worked with us....bummer! As usual I'm doing my customary bargain search on city search and found a few mediocre hair dressers, nothing to be excited about. Then I bumped into Velvet Roses and check out the site, seemed descent enough so I gave it a try. Well to my surprise it was her?Maribel! I felt like a child walking into a candy store. I was so delighted to find her again!! Of course I bitched to her about why she didn't notify me of her move & starting her own Beauty Salon; and she explained how she lost her cell phone (for those who were wondering).....but OMG I'M SO HAPPY I FOUND HER! more

never seen better 5/3/2007

Velvet Roses is one of the best hair salon i know, when i went there for the first time my hair was damage dry and all crazy stuff, but the minute RUTHIE started treating my hair did a whole turn around. the second best thing of the salon is the service that RUTHIE gives me and the comfortability that i recieve while being there. the best service that anyone can have 5/2/2007

I wanted to thank Ruthie for finally giving me the look that i always wanted. for the past 3 years i could not seem to find some one who can maintain and keep my hair in a healthy manner. finally my hair is at a normal legnth. The atomosphere was so wonderful. I also enjoyed the manicure, pedicure and waxed eye brow treatment. I spent the hole day with my new favorite hairstylist. more

.......I AM SOOOOO HAPPY I FOUND VELVET ROSES.....no wait MARIBEL!! I hate hair salons! I hate the wait, the rude staff that think they are to good for new clients or these little shacks that there noisy clientele waiting for there turn...urg....just makes me want to scream! So I'm walking by this place and notice that the girl is busy but not swamped so I decide to make an app. She did wonders! My hair never looked better with a blow-dry!! I've always had luck when it comes to getting hair done, since I am good judge of character I always seem to land in the write hands!! I reside in the city where things are sooooo expensive so I've been traveling to neighboring borough?s to check out the scene. Brooklyn heights is my new favorite place but recently I took the trip with some friends to Willyburg and stumbled upon this very nice salon. So I check out their prices (pasted on the door) and though well not bad, So I walked in to get my hair straighten and whoa my hair....I've never seen it so shiny!! I've gone back a few times and whoa I always leave amazed.....I'm considering moving to Willyburg to move closer to my new hair salon..... Pros: nice decor, close to the L, great shops Cons: can't afford to go there everday to get pampered! more

Looking for a good deal........ 2/7/2007

can anyone say affordable? as usual I was looking for a bargain to get my hair done. I have very straight easy hair and well its just blah! I hate it when stylist tell me there isn't much they can do!.....Dam-it if your charging me an arm and a leg do something......moving right along, I stumble on this myspace page myspace/velvetrosesbeautysalon and decide to call. The friendly voice on the other end lured me in for a cut. WHOA and what a cut, not sure what she did but my hair looks amazing!!! Not to mention Maribel is such a sweetheart!! So I read these reviews and decided to go...... 1/15/2007

I make my appoitment, and was pleasently surprised with this spacious clean salon, not to mention she has sales on Tues and Wed! So, I'm greated with a bright smile from the owner's mother...Maria. When Marible comes and greats me (by name) & with a warm smile; as she is washing my hair I feel that I'm in love...but then I say not so fast anyone can wash hair! Now before I continue I have really bad ethnic hair, I usally relax it but am trying to wear it natural because I can never find salon's to make me happy...anyway she set my hair then 45 min later blew it out and OMG...I WAS LIKE BEYONCE WATCH OUT GIRL...LOL! more

Quality and Satisfaction at an Affordable Price!!! 1/15/2007

From the moment you walk in to Velvet Roses, you feel like you won't want to leave. Everything from the ambience to the service is exceptional. Maribel is there to listen to what you want and will get it right the first time and you will keep going back. I'm always happy with the services at this quaint salon, from hair color to the pedicures, which are heavenly!!! You will not go wrong with Velvet Roses!!!!!!! Pros: Everything!! Cons: None! more

Best haircut I've ever had! 1/11/2007

I followed Maribel from Manhattan when she left. She is an AMAZING stylist and a wonderful and warm person. I also have ethnic hair and isn't easy to handle. I've always left the hairstylists slightly disappointed, never having received really what I wanted. From the first time Maribel did my hair, it was perfect. Every time I see her, I go to work the next day and everyone comments on how great my hair looks. The products she uses are so kind to the hair, even if it's getting colored. The salon itself is lovely and everyone at the salon is just as nice as Maribel is. I won't go anywhere else. Pros: Consummate professional, great atmosphere more

I have really ethnic hair, and I have a hand full of bad hair salon experience...but as I'm doing my salon screening through city search I read all these good things about this salon so I make an appointment....I get my usual relaxer & wash and set; the relaxer she used was unbelievable it was super gentle on my hair, she gave me a really good hair wash ( which is hard to find) and set me......well all I am going to say is I've never gotten so many compliments in my life about my hair.......Thanks Velvet Roses!!!!! Pros: Professional; Knows how to treat a customer Cons: Not in the city but close enough....& worth the trip to Brooklyn! more

Can't find the words to describe how happy this place makes me feel!! 1/2/2007

Don't know how I was able to make before this place existed! I'm passing by and I this huge salon with 2 girls (I must admit I was skeptical because the place was empty) anyway I walk in just to get my eyebrows done but they were so friendly that I decided to stay for a manicure, it was great I had a nice time they took their time with me I was happy...so I made a hair appointment for the following week and OMG my hair looked amazing! she gave a trim (and didn't chop off my hair) a nice warm color and the BEST BLOW-DRY EVER! Well to make a long story short my Saturday morning app is on permanent reserve!!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: Great neighboring shops;good quality products;very friendly;very clean Cons: No parking more

Finally, A Hair Salon That Makes My Hair Happy! 9/25/2006

Before I became a regular at VR, I would always leave hair salons feeling a bit disappointed, (the feeling of ""this isn't what I wanted""). I can honestly say it only took one visit for me to notice a great change in my hair! Upon entering VR you might get the sense that you are at a friends house. The lighting is great, not to loud. The waiting area is very comfy! While I waited I was served wine and fruits. I loved my hair wash. It was somewhat an orga*mic experience! My hairsylist Maribel is amazing! God Bless those hands! She is absolutely fabulous with color, layers and blowdry. I love the products. I am so glad I found this place!!! Pros: The neighborhood includes:Nice eat-in places, lounges, and shopping. more

I've been to many hair salons in the city and by FAR this is the absolute BEST HAIR SALON!!! MARIBEL is the best hair dresser I've ever known. She has the best hands in the business!! She understands each client's needs and leaves you feeling like a STAR!!! If you feel like you need a change but are afraid to try something new or different, Maribel is the person to see!!! Her hair salon is so comfy and the service is relaxing and the neighborhood is fantastic!! Her PRICES ARE UNBELIEVABLE and she has the best hair products including organic products. WHOA WHAT SERVICE!! I live in woodhaven where it is so hard to find someone who know what they are doing. I love Williamsburg....the new SOHO. I walk into this beautiful salon and think ""can't afford this"", but I decide what the hell I deserve a treat. The nicest person (Maribel) helps me and gives me the best haircut. While Im there they are promotting their new facial service WONDERFUL!! & 2 weeks later I get the most amazing hour long pedicure from Ruthie. Pros: Friendly enviorment; affordable $$$ Cons: Can't think of any....... more
