Worst

Normally I don't care to write reviews about Portland businesses but here it goes. The staff here is kind, the vet we had even followed up with a phone call to check in on our dog...

Editorial review from Citysearch 2/13/2017

After 1 week of my dog being in their clinic, they refuse to release him to me so that I can get a second opinion on his condition. They are unfriendly and unreasonable, and they care more about money than they do about animals' welfare. more

VERY wrong diagnosis 2/22/2011

After such rave reviews, I took my cat to this vet because she was losing weight fast, 3-5 lbs. over the course of 10 days and not eating. They did blood work, said she wouldn't let them see her teeth, and sent me home with a dental kit and 2 cans of food with a recommendation to have a dental cleaning and extraction ranging from $800-1500. Called and left a message the following day about the blood work and glossed over important things like liver concerns, but many minutes on slight anemia and is probably okay for the dental work. I called back, got a different vet and she offered some meds for sore gums which weren't ready several hours later when I arrived. The tech said she'd have them ready in 5 minutes and 5 minutes later she hadn't made a move to get them and was still on the computer. When I went back the next day, I got the Rx and copies of my cat's labs. I sent them to another vet with my cat's info/history and they took me first thing the next day. My cat has stomach cancer and a very short time to live. Not the vet's doing, but no where close to needing a dental cleaning. You can decide if this is vet you want to trust. more

Good but too expensive 5/21/2010

The vets are good - they seem knowledgeable and compassionate, but I agree about the fees. They are way too expensive. It cost me $250 to have my dog euthanized - that seemed a little excessive. They also did a very expensive fecal test (usually a float to look for parasite eggs is under $20 - but this one tested for bacteria and was $200!) without even telling me how expensive it was before they did it. I am assuming they have high overhead to cover?? more

Kind staff but too expensive 3/10/2010

Normally I don't care to write reviews about Portland businesses but here it goes. The staff here is kind, the vet we had even followed up with a phone call to check in on our dog. Aside from that, the fees are sky high. In the last 4 months, my dog had two simple treatments, an allergic reaction to a bug bite and a bladder infection. Total, it came close to 700 dollars! My newborn was cheaper to vaccinate than it was to treat my dog for two simple ailments. I emailed them to voice my opinion (kindly I might add) but have received no response so I feel pretty burned and won't be going back there. I believe they are overstaffed and too big which most likely explains the high costs. I will be looking for a smaller less bloated vet. more

Very caring and compassionate 11/13/2009

A few months ago I took my cat there because he was sick, I was new to Portland, and they were the closest vet to my apartment. I have NO regrets about taking him there. Dr. Fairbanks has been his primary vet and she is fantastic. My poor little guy ended up having serious urinary problems and spent a few days in the hospital, but they were all extremely supportive and compassionate. The front desk staff are always friendly and even know my kitty by name at this point. I'm not sure if they're expensive compared to other places, but in my opinion their compassion, knowledge, and care is worth every penny. I cannot put a price on my kitty's healthcare. I definitely recommend them! Pros: compassionate, caring, patient more

I agree about the money! 10/8/2009

I use to go there and take my three pups but quit a number of years ago. The best doc they had - Dr. Dix left and then they remodeled the office. The fees went WAY up and the front desk staff seemed to be growing clueless in an increasing fashion! The straw that broke this back was my 18 year old needed to be put down - you know when the time comes, he had grown tired and it was time. I called and told the moron at the front desk the situation and was told there's no way we can get you in how about next Tuesday? EXCUSE ME? You sir are an idiot. Never again. Callus and uncaring! more

Always great 9/7/2009

The docs are knowledgeable, helpful, and compassionate as is the rest of the staff. It's easy to get a convenient appointment. I can't think of anything negative at all. Pros: Super friendly staff, great hours, great value Cons: None that I can think of more

Only care about money 10/1/2008

I walked out my apartment door one day to walk my min pin on leash. A skate boarder came flying around the corner and slammed his board into my dogs chest. My dog screamed and would not get up. I picked up my dog and immediately took my dog to the vet almost half a block away. I was just going for a walk so I did not have my wallet on me. Unwilling to leave my dog alone there I called my friends to call in their visas since this was the only way anyone would even talk to me about my dog. Since it took about 20 min for them to get the payment my dog died. I took my dog to another vet for an autopsy. They told me that this dog's life was savable all Lynwood had to do was put a catheter in the dogs chest to relieve the pressure of the air from the punctured lung. The air put pressure on my dogs heart and he died. The fault 100% was on this clinic. If they truly care about animals they would have saved my dogs life then worry about money. There are plenty of places that help not just care about money, disgusting. OH, they got their 300 dollars for doing nothing.\r Aristai Pros: location Cons: staff rude, no one cared, only wanted money more

Doggie Lover loyal to Dr. Strom 4/21/2006

I have gone to Dr Strom for the past three years since I got a dachshund puppy and then adopted another dachshund. She has always given my dogs great care during their various medical conditions and so given great advice on where to go to deal with other problems (such as weight problems and alopecia). She knows a lot about the breed and there conditions and doesnt mind when my female dachshund gets sassy with her. more
