Editorial review from Citysearch 9/20/2015

The staff is amazing. We brought our sick kitty in for a check-up. After entering the exam room kitty was given several minutes to explore and then handled gently and with professionalism. Kitty was diagnosed with a terminal illness. The staff treated us and kitty better than my primary care physician. They even cried when we did. Each time before treatment we were given an itemized estimate and a clear explanation of what each item was. There was never any pressure to pursue more expensive treatment even when it was offered. We had many questions and were given time to think about each and every option. Unfortunately we had to put kitty down to keep her from suffering. They waived some of the test fees on the final visit. \r kind\r caring\r friendly\r professional\r THE BEST humans on earth are the ones at the VCA Lancaster more

Do Not Go Here 1/2/2015

We had been going to VCA for 3 years and never had any real problems....until recently. Our 15 year old furbaby had developed a sudden onset of seizures. We took her in to be examined by Liz Ruark. She told us that she more than likely had a brain tumor and basically gave her a death notice. No tests were suggested...just the fact that our baby was going to die and she didn't know how long she would have to live. She prescribed phenobarbitol and after two weeks the seizures returned. We decided it was time to let our baby go, to end any pain and suffering. We were walked into a room and Dr. Ruark told us that the shot would sting a little. I read the website before going in to see what type of euthanasia practice would be used. It seemed just like the other euthanasias I had been through before...then the horror began! She did not explain what would happen next...in fact she did not explain the procedure at all. I sat there with my precious little baby on my lap and she ask more

Confident in VCA Lancaster. 12/25/2009

VCA Lancaster Animal Hospital has a very caring staff and vets. We have been going there for over 50 yrs, way back when Dr. Murtha started the Lancaster Animal Hospital. We find Dr. Liz Ruark to be one of the best vets we have ever had. She is kind and caring to our animals and to us as owners as well. She explains everything well to us and we always come away from there confident that our dogs are getting the best of care. Three cheers for VCA Lancaster! more

Thank you Dr Dickason 8/17/2009

My dog Jackson has gone to this hospital for eleven years. Dr Easley* saved his life when he was one. I only go once a year now, but my experience is with Dr. Dickason who is probably new and is one of the best and kindest vets I have ever met in my life. Today I will probably need to put my golden retriever down but I was glad not to do it at Tufts so it would be Dr. Dickason with my dog at the end of his life. Wherever you go make sure you are comfortable with your questions being answered and how they treat your pet. more

i had to say something....unsatisfactory 8/4/2009

I am very disappointed in this hospital as of recently. I have never seen such a high turn over rate in such a short period of time. Everytime I bring my dogs there they see someone new. I just went there last week and its all new faces! What is going on there? I miss the old days when doctors stayed at practices for years. At Lancaster its seems as if I am lucky to see the same doctor twice without finding out, "Oh they left but we have this new wonderful doctor, you will love him/her." I cant walk out of there without paying 400-500 dollars per each dog for their yearly check up. Come on and get a grip people!! These animals are our pets and I feel I need to save up for a vacation every year just for their check ups. \r There is a new manager and chief of staff. The woman Kerry, she is very high energy, and I have to say very sarcastic/fake. And I also was able to meet the chief of staff. He seemed nice, sense of humor but I felt as if I did not get my money worth with him. Very vauge more

VCA Lancaster Animal Hospital DISAPPOINTING!!!! 7/9/2009

I went to Lancaster Animal Hospital for over 5 years. I just recently left due to the uncaring, defensive, & sarcastic manager there named Kerri! She made rude facial expressions and did not seem to ACTUALLY listen to what I was asking or saying & she did not seem to know how to explain things or know what to say. I enjoyed going to this hospital even though it could sometimes be a little pricey. But now it is being taken over by a staff that does not know what customer service is. I am extremely disappointed. more

The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly 5/29/2009

I have been a long-term client. When this animal hospital was owned independently, it was THE BEST. The doctors were honest, never ordered more tests or medicine than necessary, and there was an integrity that was very special... along with great medical skills. I was confident in the care of my pets. Since being sold to Health Pet and now VCA, the push is on for the most services, tests and medications they can possibly charge for... it is very obvious. And the turnover of veterinarians is amazing, it's someone new almost every time. Some lack an understanding of how to "calmly" approach a pet, others are good. Some are very caring about my dogs, some are less so. But it is obviously a practice that is now run by a "home office" and everywhere you look they are trying to sell something. It is sad and disappointing. After one too many $500 visits and a most irritating manner of their general office manager (which they never needed in the past), I'm going to find a new practice. Excellent Vets & Wonderful Staff 12/19/2007

I have lived in the Lancaster area for years, but just started going to the Lancaster Animal Hospital. I was skeptical about the fact the hospital was owned by a corporate identity but my fears were unfounded. The staff here is incredibly caring and experienced. The doctors are wonderful and very knowledgeable. I feel confident knowing that my pets' care are in their hands. On a personal note - I know the poster Lisa E very well and unfortunately she is high maintenance and quite rude to the staff. This is a small town and everyone knows everyone else. I have seen her in action at the hospital and she is quite a piece of work. I am sure the hospital is much better without her antics. more

Wonderful, Caring Staff and Vets 12/16/2007

We recently moved to the area and needed to find a good vet. When we found a stray we decided to take her to Lancaster not really knowing very much about this hospital. \r \r It turns out they are definitely the best animal hospital we've used. The entire staff is wonderful. They are unbelievable caring and extremely knowledgeable. They really take the time to get to know you and your pets. They were even kind enough to email us and answer questions regarding the health issues we were facing with our cat.\r \r I can't write enough about how phenomenal Lancaster Animal Hospital is and I will continue to recommend them to anyone I know who is looking for a vet. more

Wonderful Caring Vet 11/29/2007

I have been going to Lancaster Animal Hospital for years, and though the owners have changed the caring stays the same. I can't believe how warm and caring the staff is and how far they will go to accommodate you. They are defintely here for the animals. \r \r We have two cats and dog and a very hectic schedule. We can always get an appointment when needed with Lancaster. They have great night hours and are even open on Saturdays. \r \r I can not recommend them enough for anyone's pets. \r \r Oh and the groomer next door to them is great too. more

Sold but great! Staff and doctors are amazing! 11/28/2007

I have a definite issue with previous posters review. Yes the hospital was sold...well sort of. It was a merger and was all over the public trading sites for months. If you ask the staff and doctors who are working at the hospital, they will tell you the "new owners" seem to be much more on the ball then the previous ones. \r \r And, yes it is true, that the two full time doctors had left after the transistion, but the poster implies it was due to the change of ownership which is simply untrue. One doctor, who was from Canada, left to go back there to deliver her baby and be near her family. She spoke about her moving back to Canada before the birth for months and prior to the ownership change. The other doctor had made it known for years that he was leaving the hospital to move down south after his wife finished her program at Tufts Univ. Unfortuately, the hospital wasn't able to replace these wonderful vets as fast as they had wanted to. \r \r The "two permanent part time vets" a more

The best of the best - no matter what 11/28/2007

Well hospital was sold...well sort of. It was a merger and was all over the public trading sites for months. I was skeptical and didn't know what to think. If you ask the staff and doctors who are working at the hospital, they will tell you the "new owners" seem to be much more on the ball then the previous ones. Pros: caring staff, clean building, great doctors Cons: absolutely nothing more

This hospital was just sold. 11/17/2007

I have been a client with several animals for a couple of years. As of last September, all of the full-time vets of this hospital have left. This hospital has been sold to VCA and now has two impersonal "part-time permanent" vets. I have no idea what "part-time permanent" even means. What I do know is that the office staff is excellent but the actual vets could jump ship at any moment. Needless to say, the vets themselves have no idea of who my animals are and really couldn't care less. Approach with extreme caution. more

Wonderuly caring experience 11/17/2005

This office is by far the most caring and helpful I have ever been too. Courteous, prompt and not too expensive. From the receptionist to the doctor a++ Our dog had a problem with her ear and needed an emergency visit. Her own Vet could not squeeze her into their schedule. This office took us immediately and showed our dog compassion like no other we have seen. Our Dog is also skittish when it comes to visits and they took this to heart and worked with our dog. Most establishments get annoyed by this behavior. The place was clean and inviting. I was especially touched by the follow up call to see how my dog was doing. I would highly recommen this veterinarian. more
