Abott was my hospital of choice, back when it had a separate cat entrance. Now...found another GREAT place...Gardner Animal Hospital. Pricey..but caring.

Happy Pet, Happy Owner! 6/4/2011

My greyhound has had the pleasant opportunity of being a patient with Abbott for 2 years now. The personnel are friendly, professional and always ensure he gets the care he needs.\r \r Heath is a happy go lucky pup, even so - I appreciate the staff's willingness to go the extra mile to make sure he's comfortable and welcomed every time we visit. The doctors are thorough, clearly explain options I can take with my pet's care and provide recommendations on what they consider is the best path forward. This approach is great as it allows me to choose what I comfortable spending.\r \r Beyond normal check ups and vaccinations, the doctors of Abbott have done an amazing job "fixing" some of Heath's more interesting cases such as an anal gland infection (who knew!?) and two cut up paws requiring stitches after running in the yard (can't kill that greyhound spirit!). For that, we're both thankful!\r \r If you're in the area, and even if you're not, I recommend stopping by Abbott and giving them a more

Crazy! 4/1/2011

Abbot has cutting edge testing/care and knowledgeable staff, however, that's about as good as it gets over there. They order test after test all of them cutting edge and expensive, when the old fashioned diagnostics work just as well and don't cost a fraction of the new prices. Then they tell you that the tests that they are charging you for are not the actual diagnosing tools, that they are the preliminary ones and that the actual tests will cost you double that later. They load you down with food "samples" that cost $25 dollars a can. They charged $26.00 dollars for a jar of disinfecting wipes that you "need". They charge a 5.25 fee for bio-hazardous waste disposal when the only "waste" they had was a probe cover that went up your dogs ass. You could probably buy a box of the covers for $5.25. Absolutely nuts! And if you even ask them about a cheaper treatment or alternative they brush it off like you never said it!! Very condescending staff. more

Not happy... 4/1/2011

apparently this is a common problem, Abbott definitely tries their hardest to get you to spend as much money as they can. They really force you into getting all these tests done on your dog that aren't really necessary but they make it sound like they are. After you leave the place for a "routine wellness exam" you are $350.00 poorer and odds are they found something on your dog that needs surgery, which has to get done that SAME MONTH so there goes another 350... then your dog gets sick in their kennels. thats another 150... \r Dont go to Abbott if you can help it.... more

Fed Up With Abbott 8/20/2010

I am currently looking for a new vet in the Worcester area. We've been using Abbott for over 10 years, bringing 2 dogs, 3 cats, 2 hamsters and a rat there. I liked them at first but I've noticed over the past 3 or 4 years, their practice has turned into a business. I feel like they just see DOLLAR SIGNS when they see me walk in the door. EVERY TIME I call, the person immediately asks me to hold and it ususally takes several minutes for them to get back to me, unless I hang up in frustration after about 5. \r \r I feel like they are constantly strong-arming us to get expensive tests and uneccessary medications and look for the most expensive diagnostic tools first. I just tried to get heartworm medication online and Abbott told the vendor we can't get it until our dog has a heartworm test. He's 7 months old and has been getting a monthly heartworm dose so why does he need yet another expensive test?\r \r I was there the other day and they were trying to convince another "customer's" more

Awful 8/20/2010

I used Abbott for a few months and didn't like them! they ripped my dog right out of my arms and took my dog in the back room to get shots. I asked the receptionist why i was not allowed to be with my dog. the receptionist told me that the shot will not hurt my dog and i said, that's not my concern. she gave me such an attitude about it and for what? this is my dog and i should be allowed to be there for my baby. i was charged sitting fees for booked appts which is rediculious. they are over priced and do not care about your animal or your feelings. If you love your animal bring them to someone else who cares about your feelings and your pets health. more

THEY ARE OUT FOR MONEY ONLY 8/9/2010

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE...They are just out for money, I took my dog there and they did some many test but never finding nothing wrong with her. So I took her back to our old vet, and they did one test and she had diabetes. I then adopted 2 cats from a shelter got a free vet check there, so I said well it's free, i will bring them there. When there they tell me they needed to have 2 rounds of shots distempers (which I believe them.) Which the shelter told me they were up to date on shots. So they should not have needed any shots. SO I WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN\r Please find somewhere else to help your animals!!! more

Stay away from Abbott 8/4/2010

Brought my dog in for a bee sting to his face, left with an injured leg. They treated him roughly, then denied it. When I asked for his records so I could take him to a new vet, they told me I would have to sign a waiver stating that they weren't responsible for injuring my dog. more

Good service, nice vet techs 1/20/2010

I've been going there for 25 years and always great customer service. I've taken 2 dogs and 4 cats there over the years. more

VCA Abbott Animal Hospital is INSENSITIVE! 9/16/2009

Sad! My dog has been going there for 13 years. He is 16. He can't walk and needs something. They aren't interested. I have paid thousands to them with appointments, pills, and surgeries. They don't care. There is a new vet every week. They put you on hold for hours. They are insensitive BAD people. more

Abbott.....NO THANK YOU 7/23/2009

we have been customers for 16 years and I am no longer interested in bringing my animals here. We had a sick cat who they did tests and procedures on about 2 years ago. In the end we had a high bill, and still a sick cat. They instructed us to take him to tufts where i now have a 3000 bill. Thanks Abbott. We recently had our 5month German shepherd there for shots and she was deemed vicious and ordered to be muzzled all the time because she was growling at the vet tech. Mind you she was so scared she couldn't stop shaking. The vet then instructed me to bring her to a behavior specialist and remove her from our house because she wasn't safe for my kids or company..... all this because the pup was nervous at the vet and growled. I don't know about you, but it seems a little over board if you ask me. Thanks again Abbott. Now today I brought her to get spayed... 2 years ago we had our lab done there and since becoming a VCA the price has DOUBLED. I could not believe what they are going to c more

VCA Abbott Animal Hospital is AWFUL 6/16/2009

We have 2 dogs and 2 cats. One of my dogs was suffering from seizures and they performed several tests and then sent us to Tufts and refused to prescribe a seizure med for my suffering dog. After a very expensive vet bill and still no meds, we went to a different vet in Worcester and after only one visit my dog was put on medication and is doing great! I would not recommend this vet to anyone... more

WAS a loyal customer......... 2/9/2009

I have been bringing my pets to Abbotts for more than 10 years, and I have to say that I am looking for a new vet for my animals. Currently I have 3 cats and 2 dogs. It seems that since they became a VCA hospital that all they want to do is sell me extra tests and procedures for my pets. The last time I was there they told me my cat had fleas, I said NO WAY and made her search through his fur with one of those flea combs. I was right, no fleas or flea residue! She told me he must have had fleas at some point, to which I said my cats are indoor cats and have neither them or my dogs have ever had fleas. Plus, how would the fleas mysteriously go away if I never treated my animals for them? If one animal had them they would ALL have them and I would know it. The vet kept trying to tell me my cats needed to be on that Revolution flea and tick stuff, to which I said no thank you. Then she told me my cat was arthritic, but that it was common in older cats and he should start glucosam more

SICK DOG TURNED AWAY!!! 11/14/2008

I have been a loyal customer of Abbott for years. We have a dog with thyroid disease, and we spend hundreds of dollars a year for her care, without complaint of course, as we would do anything for our sweet dog. However, a friend of mine recently needed vet services for her horribly ill 4 year-old German Shepherd. She just moved to the state, just started a new job, and does not have the money to pay for a full work-up all at once. I recommended that she call Abbott, as I would have to anyone. This poor animal has had chronic diarrhea for weeks and looks like she is on death's door. My friend did call Abbott, and asked if there was a way for her to pay for a portion of the visit, and then make weekly or monthly payments for the balance. She explained that the dog is incredibly ill, but was told, quite abruptly, that Abbott does NOT work with patients on payment plans, and WILL NOT see her dog unless she pays for the visit in full! Now, I can understand that this may be policy, but I am more

Great Place to Take your Dogs! 2/19/2008

I have 3 terriers and I trust Abbott to take care of my pets. We were just there the other day and the staff is very knowledgeable and caring and my dogs actually LOVE going to the vet now. \r Thank you for being so caring for our pets! \r -Terrance, Dutchess & Salisbury more

Above and beyond 11/20/2006

When I brought my 7yr old Westy in for his yearly physical the doctor bacame very quiet when she felt his belly. She told me he had a tumor on his spleen. They did a sonogram and determined that it was not in his kidneys or liver and his lung x-ray was clear. She told me that even with all that, it was probably cancer but only taking out the spleen and having a biopsy could tell. The odds were that it was cancer. Luckily, it turned out to be benign, although leaving it meant it might have ruptured and caused him to bleed internally. \r thanks to all the people at Abbott's they all truly cared about my Alex more

All in one 10/24/2006

Abbott's is one of few rare hospital's that do more than just vaccines. They not only treat your pet but also board them while your away, sick pets are seen promptly and if the Dr feels they need 24 hour care they will refer you to Tuft's. They offer the best hours around as well. How many people can say their vet is open on Sundays? Now thats going above and beyond. more

Excellent Experience 10/10/2006

Excellent care. Compassionate doctors and staff. With 7 doctors it sometimes seems that there is someone new every year...But, the quality of care and continuity of medical records has meant a lot to me. While I usually try to see the same vet whenever I go, if my dogs are sick I know I can be seen and that my regular vet will know whats going on. PROS: Lots of experience, dedicated staff CONS: Sometimes long waits on the telephone more

Great staff, excellent care. 8/19/2005

As a new kitten owner, I had a lot of questions and the staff at Abbott Animal Hospital had a lot of answers! The staff was very friendly and helpful. I was able to call and get an appointment the same day and did not have a long wait at the hospital. The doctor that examined my kitten was excellent and the overall experience (my first one) to the vet was very (surprisingly) pleasant! PROS: Excellent care and friendly, kind staff. CONS: None! more
