My husband I have eaten here regularly over the alst 3 years since moving to Delaware from Philadelphia. Utage recently changed hands to become Takumi. The chefs have stayed, but the owner left and took the name Utage with him. This location is Takumi now.
We've never had a problem with the food, ever. I order sushi almost exclusively when I am there. The fish is always cold, fresh, and tasty. Frequently, they will bring us free appetizers or a free dessert, which have always been good. Now that they are under new management, I've found that the quality of the food is actually better. The wait staff has always been friendly and good.
We were there only once when it was extremely crowded and the service was a disaster. We waited about an hour for our food (we were just a party of 2), but it was good when we got it and the staff were all extremely apologetic. We got free appetizers AND desserts that day.
I agree with the one reviewer that mentioned the carpet being filthy. It IS bad. The decor seems very old and a little dingy and run-down. They have done some redecorating since changing over to Takumi, but they really need to get that carpet replaced. The area leading to the restrooms could use an overhaul too.
Pros: Friendly wait staff, Japanese chefs
Cons: Interior needs serious updating; service slow when crowded
