Over-rated, Expensive and expect No-Service! 8/14/2011

The service is not there at this venue. You have to walk up, order, pay and wait for a waiter to drop off the food at your table, that is if you found a table that was clean to begin with. There is no other service what so ever at any locations of this chain. If you want a glass of water you need to fetch it yourself. The food is ok but very expensive for a venue with no service. The staff think that they are descendants of Royalty, expect them to be snobby and less than cordial. sometimes flat out rude and argumentative. more

Attention All Coffee & Dessert Lovers <3 9/29/2009

I've been to the Melrose & Beverly Urth, and always prefer coming to the Beverly location. The people that come here tend to live or work in the area, whereas the Melrose Urth has blown up to unspeakable paparazzi proportions thanks to Entourage!\r \r Spanish Latte - Ordered with non-fat milk, strong espresso & easy on the condensed milk. This allows me to be able to eat dessert without having too sweet a drink to pair it with.\r \r Egg Sandwich - Only served at breakfast! Who knew avocado & sliced cheese on top of an egg would be so delightful.\r \r Fruit Plate - Thinly sliced with a dollop of creamy yogurt in the center for dipping. They put seasonal as well as specialty fruit on top (e.g. Dragonfruit, red oranges, plums & yellow kiwi) along with your standard melon & berries.\r \r Desserts - Unsure of what to get & don't want to spend $7? Look on the far right and/or bottom section for ""Bake Sale"" items. These are usually only $2-$4 and are only a few hours old. Usually they are trying to get rid of the breakfast items by 3 PM. Great deal!\r \r Try: Pumpkin Pie, Oreo Cheesecake, Blueberry Cheesecake, Fruit Tart, Lemon Poppy seed Pound Cake, Blackout Chocolate Pound Cake, or Pecan Pie. Pros: Spanish Latte, Desserts, Fruit Plate, People Watching Cons: Parking can be difficult (Tip: Use the $2 parking lot) more

Best Pumpkin Pie on Earth. 11/30/2008

Read other reviews for details on drinks salads sandwiches etc. All I want to say: BEST PUMPKIN PIE. I think they sell the whole one (it's huge) for $40. Or by the slice if you please. Pros: Chill spot, decent food, many teas. Cons: Slightly Overpriced more

best urth location i've tried 11/24/2008

in my opinion, this is the best urth location i've been too. I have yet to visit the santa monica one and the new one downtown. I didn't mind the melrose one, but after my trip the beverly location, i was hooked! The service and the people are great. its a great spot to go to and have a dessert and coffee, but their food is great as well! if you like tea, they will have a great recommendation for you if you want to try something new! Pros: everything about this place is great Cons: parking is along the street and can be difficult at times unless you valet. more

Good location and GREAT pumpkin pie 7/11/2008

Located right in the center of the popular Beverly Blvd restaurant strip between Wilshire and Olympic boulevards, this cafe serves up DELICIOUS, fresh and organic sandwiches and salads. Their plentiful and rich dessert options are just as satisfying, particularly their graham-cracker crust pumpkin pie. And their Spanish latte with honey is one of my favorite coffee drinks ever! Parking is cheap; free until 6pm at the garage nearly across the street and only $2-ish afterwards. The negatives: It can often be hard to get a seat, and the homeless sometimes approach you to ask for money if you?re sitting outside closer to the street. However, equally is likely at this location is that you?ll spot a celebrity. Pros: food, coffee, dessert, parking Cons: lack of seating more

Excellent coffee and outdoor seating 3/15/2008

Great place to sip aromatic coffee whie enjoying the outdoor patio or cozy fireplace inside. It's in easy walking distance from where I live and some cute shops so I've worked my way through a considerable portion of the menu - oatmeal , omelettes, and paninis are nothing to write home about; salads, soups, and sweets (particularly their hazelnut chocolate croissant and decadent, warm bread pudding with baked apple or banana on top) are worthwhile. Service is generally friendly and helpful, though there is sometimes a gentleman controlling the flow of the tables outside who can be a bit abbrasive. Pros: Excellent coffee, outdoor seating and indoor fireplace, organic + healthy options Cons: Guy who conducts the flow of outdoor seating on busy days can be a bit rough more

A little more hastle than it's worth 2/25/2008

Chicken tamales were ok, but not for $10. \r \r Not the best choice for lunch in Beverly Hills, but nothing else seemed like a good idea that day more

Good place to hang out with tasty, healthy food 1/30/2008

The chicken curry salad/ sandwich is one of my favorite items on the menu. It's a cold cut sandwich and the chicken curry is very strong with curry spices (BUT not hot at all). Most items on the menu are quite light and healthy. If you are looking for more fulfilling food, they have excellent panini melts too.\r \r As for their desserts, I would recommend the tiramisu and the napoleon cake. more

best coffee in LA, great outdoor seating, friendly staff 1/4/2008

This place made my move to LA worthwhile. In an otherwise urban city teeming with Hollywood superstars and dog leash-clad actors, the ambiance, atmosphere and--most importantly--FOOD at this restaurant is a welcomed respite from the ""rest."" (My friend saw Meg Ryan there last week so, its not ""star-free,"" but we're in LA people . . . we don't even expect ""star-free!"").\r \r I highly recommend the Spanish Latte. Throw back one of these and, coffee will never be the same to you, I swear. Pros: outdoor seating, amazing coffee, creative menu Cons: long wait in line more

Best Vegan Chocolate Cake EVER 6/17/2007

One slice is more than enough for two people... I eat half and don't need chocolate again for at least a week! The place is open late, which is nice, but sometimes they are OUT OF THE VEAGN CHOCOLATE CAKE late at night. So, so disappointing when that happens. Good soy lattes, too. more

Limited seating, great food, cozy atmosphere 11/17/2006

This is my favorite of the three Urth locations. It is by far the easiest to find a seat at, is the ""cutest"" in terms of look, feel and decor and even seems to have a more varied selection--at least of baked goods. Also, I find that the service is best at this location. All of the Urth Caffes have delicious, fresh food for prices that are not completely unreasonable. This is one of my favorite spots for a quick and simple meal later in the evening, followed by a scrumptious dessert! Pros: dessert Cons: seating can be tricky more

decent food, horrible service 8/24/2006

This place is ridiculous! I was soooo looking forward to sit and relax with a cup of coffee (dark and rich, really good) and biscotti. But to my dismay, my friend was not allowed to sit with me at one of their tables because she was holding food purchased at Chipotle (which was across the street). She was not allowed to sit there for even merely the time it took me to finish my food. (20 minutes). The manager rudely told me that only I could sit there and no exceptions and then proceeded to get a sign in the kitchen and waved it in my face, which said pretty much the same thing. I guess the sign was waved in my face just so I could thouroughly understand that outside food was not allowed, but come on. So if you can stand that type of service than go for it, if not. Do not go! Pros: good coffee, spanish latte is good. Cons: Terrible service, terrible management, horrible parking more

real cali cuisine: fresh food without the fuss 7/6/2006

this is what cali is made of. they have great sandwiches and desserts. always save room for dessert. pricey enough that you could buy their tea and coffee for someone as a present but cheap enough to dine on a regular basis. great place to bring friends from outa town to for lunch. Pros: fresh food, attention to detail, desserts more

Teas galore 3/16/2006

This location is almost always crowded. The food is healthy (read bland!) but fresh. Small portions...small tables...it's best to come here for coffee or tea rather than a real meal. Pros: Valet, Heat lamps, Fresh Cons: Crowded, Small Portions more

It was OK 1/1/2006

I'm not a soy type of person so one day my friends dragged me here and I tried some. I guess the drinks are pretty good. That day we saw the Olsen twins too so it's a good place to ""celebrity watch"" more
