ZOT! Reflections of a UCI Transfer Student 3/26/2006

I transferred to UCI and began my upper-division college studies as an English major this January, and what an experience it has been! There are excellent resources on campus: wireless internet access just about everywhere you go, internship opportunities, counseling (career and personal), peer advisors...there are more resources than I can even begin to list, but if you ask, someone will be sure to point you in the right direction. UCI is particularly sensitive to the transfer student, and there are plenty of opportunities to ask for assistance, which I highly recommend. Their website provides a great deal of information whatever your major. The quarter system is great: I came from the semester system and there is no opportunity for boredom to enter into one's vocabulary as you blaze through your classes. This also means: Don't Procrastinate! The hardest thing for me is balancing work and school. Most classes are offered as Mon/Wed/Fri OR Tues/Wed, and evening classes for the upper division coursework required of English majors is rare, so be aware if you are looking to balance a job that pays for more than your basic extra-curricular activities. It is possible, though. Having survived the first quarter with my head still attached, I feel confident that others will have great success if they are returning to school from a long hiatus (I graduated high school in 1995). Parking is tough at times, so I recommend allowing yourself (especially the first week of classes) plenty of time to park and get to your classrooms. Tuesdays & Thursdays, I'm told, are the busiest parking days. Overall, it's a great school and I feel especially blessed to have such a wonderful university so close to home. Go Anteaters! more

UCI 9/4/2005

I went to UC Irvine from 1997-2001 and had a great experience. There is a variety of activities for every student to participate in. There was never a class that I still want to complain about - besides the English Literature 100 series which was too much work! I was in the School of Humanities which had awesome new buildings and great technological resources. I felt like the school got great funding and there were plenty of resources. The parking used to be horrible but they've built two new parking structures since I've graduated. more

Great Campus but Average Academically 8/12/2005

Let me start off by saying that UCI *DOES NOT* have the best medical school in Southern California. I don't mean to knock the other reviewers but those reviews were written from pure ignorance. Have we forgotten that Los Angeles is part of Southern California, as well? UCI has a great medical school and a great computer science school. I've graduated from UCI and the school provided me with everything that I wanted, and more. The campus is large and extremely clean. The city of Irvine is one of the safest cities to live in in the entire nation so student safety isn't something one should be concerned about. more

Great School 6/21/2005

University Of California Irvine is a great school. University Of California Irvine is well known for their medical field. If you are a medical major, you should really try to get into University Of California Irvine. The campus is great. The parking is sometimes a hassle, but doesn’t every college have that problem. more
