used to be good 2/25/2010

Full disclosure right off the bat: I have been to U Burger before, three times in fact, and have always liked it. I fully expected it to be among the top three burgers we've had so far, before we even went there in critical fashion. But I can't review places based on reputation from past experiences because that isn't fair. Maybe I had never tried to look for flaws or maybe I was just like every other red-blooded American because I just wanted a burger. But yesterday, U Burger just wasn't very good. We may return to places if there is a serious uproar about a low score, but I need consistency. I should be able to walk in to any place on any given day and get their best offering. Yes, I am looking for flaws because that's the whole point of this blog. We want the best, we're not just looking to be full. So based on yesterday and yesterday alone, this was a very average burger, and it kills me to say it. First of all, the meat is lousy, and you can pour as much house sauce (in this case a mix of mustard, mayo and ketchup) over it as you want, but you can't cover up bad meat. Every place seems to boast fresh ground beef, hand-cut fries and limited use of freezers. Here, they only have freezers to preserve the ice cream. I dunno, maybe it's time to break out the freezers because this whole fresh thing doesn't seem to be working for anyone. You can say fresh all you want, but if the quality of meat is this bad, it might be time to take a different approach. Never mind how overcooked it was and completely dry, like a hockey puck. I realize that the true peak season of tomatoes might still be a week or two away, but the tomato is my burger was mealy and of poor quality. The lettuce was nice and crisp and the cheese fully melted. We had issues with the bun, however, toasted yes, but again of poor quality, perhaps something a supermarket chain might produce. We enjoyed the ""hand-cut"" fries, well seasoned and crispy and I had a Reese's shake to go with it all, which was nice, if unspectacular. I like the concept, it's no frills, with not too many burger choices, not overwhelming and what they do offer is appealing, on paper at least. But I am tired of these In-N-Out clones, I know they are the best, but let's bring a new style to the table. There is only one In-N-Out for a reason, and by the way, they don't charge $10 for a combo meal. There is just no personality with the burgers at U Burger, some people may like the simplicity, but it's not for me. more

A BU staple 2/10/2010

If you're visiting Boston or live here and have never been to UBurger, stop what you're doing right now and GO! I have never had a burger, salad, chicken sandwich, hot dog, or frappe that did not meet the high expectations UBurger set for me in my freshman year. The house spread and on-site ground beef make the burgers out of this world. Back when I refused to eat red meat, I would make exceptions for the U. Highly recommended! Pros: Food, prices Cons: Expensive delivery charge! more

Awesome creativity 6/21/2008

No matter what your in the mood for on your burger, Uburger has something for you. From the staple toppings like lettuce and grilled onion, to the creative like their guacamole or house sauce, you can dress your burger up anyway you would like. Fresh cut delicious fries, to homemade onion rings. Also did I mention the homemade, made to order fraps availible in all different flavors. Anytime lunch or dinner, this place is super! Remember to add an extra burger patty on that Uburger! Pros: Friendly, helpful service Cons: Not ample seating more

one of my all time fav meals, and this place is like a good friend, better than fast food without question! more

I love UBurger, reminds me of In and Out on the West Coast, but better! 2/20/2008

I am a huge endorser of UBurger, its quick, cheap and delicious. It is loaded with college students, but its located right on the outskirts of BU's campus, so there's not much avoiding that. Plus there's nothing wrong with reminiscing and bringing myself back to my college days. I think I enjoy UBurger so much because it reminds me of In and Out, a fast food burger chain on the west coast. UBurger, like I&O uses a special sauce (a combination of thousand island dressing and spices) that really adds something extra to the burger. Uburger also, although provides you with fast service, is not a fast food change and the quality of the meat is clearly better. I'll admit this burger can't compare to one from say Bartley's Burger Cottage over in Harvard Square, but it's not trying to- they are completely different, in a good way. more

Has so much potential....but 11/20/2007

Actually, it looks and feels like a great burger joint. I was less than impressed with the taste of the burger, and any place that makes quasi-gourmet burgers should be using homemade or freshly baked buns. I HATE buns from a bag loaded with preservatives.\r \r But really, the deciding factor here was the onion rings. They are the perfect onion rings IF the cook cooks them long enough. We brought ours home and they were raw on the inside. Like eating a bunch of raw onions. I had three and couldn't hack it anymore - my mouth started getting sores. Pros: The fries and onion rings are reasonably priced Cons: the burgers are nasty - frozen patties and preservative filled buns more

wow 6/20/2007

i stopped in this place before a sox game and it was delicious. cheaper than buying food in fenway and about a thousand times better... definitely try a shake! more

Amazing burgers, great price 6/7/2007

I am a student in Boston, and I cannot believe I had never noticed Uburger before! For around $5, I got a burger topped with swiss cheese, roasted red peppers, grilled onions, lettuce, and grilled mushrooms. The burger was moist and delicious. I definitely recommend this place to any other college students in the area or for people who are looking for a quick, affordable, and delicious burger. Pros: Variety of options, decent prices for the area, right at the Kenmore stop Cons: Only street parking, few chairs more

the patties have no flavor... 3/13/2007

its worth checking out but they need to do someting about the burger..... it has zero flavor.\r in and out burger its not. more

Best fast fresh food /hamburger, best french fries 2/12/2007

This is Boston's answer to the hallowed In-N-Out burger chain on the west coast. If you love burgers, you have to love UBurger in Kenmore Square. The freshness (burger and fries) was unbelievable. The counter guy said everything is made daily on the premises. Nothing is frozen or reheated. My yuppie burger (swiss cheese and mushrooms) was delish as were the fries. This was a real find. No more Fenway Franks for me. The next time I'm at a Sox game, I'll be coming by UBurger for the best fast food experience in the city. Pros: Freshly made hamburgers (ground each day on the premises) & fresh french fries Cons: Limited parking nearby, limited seating. more
