WOW! I was in NOLA recently and happened to duck into Maison Bourbon. This is one of the best kept secrets on Bourbon St. - a place for people who come to New Orleans to experience the rich musical heritage. And I sure lucked out on this rainy day. There was a solo artist playing - Truman Holland. A Louisiana boy, bred in Ponchatoula, LA - This guy is the real deal. His style is a mix of traditional Blues, Old Time Southern Roots, Country, and some New Orleans Funk thrown in for good measure - He's very much the storyteller, captivating the audience with beautifully constructed originals that ranged from melancholy blues rifs to comical stories about his experiences - and always with references to Southern living. One song that stuck with me was ""Hot Wings,"" He had everyone in the place singing along in no time! His voice is gritty yet melodic. His guitar playing is fantastic - and he is definitely a born entertainer. Go see this guy when you are in the Quarter - especially if he's playing at Maison Bourbon - a true New Orleans experience
