The Scene
Maybe it's not the household word that Carnegie is, but that's probably because it takes longer to say. This remarkable hall is a monument to the fact that culture in the Empire State is not limited to the Big Apple. Along the stairs are signed photographs of such greats as Yehudi Menuhin, Isaac Stern, Dave Brubeck and Ella Fitzgerald.
What to Hear
While filled with history, the Hall is still a vital part of the Capital Region's music scene, with recent performers including Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Doc Watson and Mark O'Connor. The superb Albany Symphony Orchestra performs regularly, and the Troy-based Dorian label records in the Hall.
While You're There
The Hall is known worldwide for its superior acoustics and beautiful design. Check out the Art Deco frescos and intricate iron staircases.
