I was referred to this Surgeon by a customer of mine who's experience with him for multiple issues moved me enough to change from a different surgeon in another organization.
In brief, from the moment I first came into contact with Dr. Ralph Liebelt, and (at the same time) his Triangle Orthopaedic Association group, and then through my hospital stay at NC Specialty Hospital and now in followup - I have had an unexpectedly wonderful and reassuring experience. It feels like Dr. Liebelt is part of a great team and it shows what western medicine is capable of at its finest.
One needs to understand that I am not a person who normally connects well with the field of Western Medicine and probably know enough, through a lifetime of research, to stress many practitioners.
When I learned from another surgeon in Chapel Hill about my condition, I didn't feel comfortable with the way he answered my questions and had ""cold feet"" (so to speak) about moving forward. When I met Dr Liebelt and brought my x-rays from this other surgeon (and understood immediately why the other x-rays were barely useful), I was already prepared with questions from my research as well as certain ""natural healers"" (who by the way already heard of this group and said to go there without reservation - an eye-opening recommendation given who it was coming from).
Dr. Liebelt was very direct and incredibly informed about what mattered to me and knew how to put me at ease. He explained in understandable terms the choices and risks around questions I had. He felt like the genuine article. And after I decided to move forward with my total hip replacement, it seems as if everyone I've spoken with about it encouraged me with rave reviews about either their own experience or that of people they knew. And they (""they"" is more than a dozen separate people) raved both about Triangle Orthopaedic as well as NC Specialty Hospital! Comically it was as if whatever surgeon they had was clearly, in their mind, the best in the field.
But I want to elaborate on the surgical experience at NC Specialty Hospital, which apparently he and his Associates own, along with a few other specialty doctors. Hospitals can be scary places, with tales of hospital-born illness, mistaken procedures and so on. This place rocks (for a hospital)! While I read one reviewer elsewhere (I'm certainly glad I didn't prior to surgery!) claim it is money-making enterprise and to go elsewhere - from my experience that would be a very cynical take on the world. This place deserves to make money. I got a personal experience with a nice private room setting more like a country club than a hospital, and a no-nonsense approach that also goes out of the way to make the person feel special. From the repetitive thoroughness of getting it right, to the reassuring way one is anesthetized, to the competence and clarity of all the follow-up, to the timeliness of getting rehab under way, it felt like the dream team. And with my crazy diet, I was so impressed by the level they worked with me in a respectful way. The staff was available, in very good spirits, and all seemed to genuinely like their jobs and where they worked.
Needless to say, I would not hesitate to recommend this doctor, his organization, and the associated hospital to my most loved friends and relatives.
