The Scene
The experience starts with a winter sleigh ride beneath the stars. Huddled under thick blankets, diners enjoy a surprisingly smooth, gently swaying ride amid tall snow-covered pines. A cozy, log-hewn cabin built in 1937 welcomes passengers with a roaring fire and two jovial dining rooms, complete with a roaming accordionist. Service is quick enough to remind diners that there's a sleigh schedule to keep to.
The Food
Steak, fish and game selections suit the former hunting-lodge locale. A pail and ladle of Petite Marmite soup with salty beef broth warms both body and palate. Hearty entrees include prime rib, strip steak or barbecue ribs. For a lighter dish, two sizeable ultra-fresh trout fillets are seared and lightly seasoned with butter, lemon and parsley. Indulgent desserts like chocolate brownie mousse are delightful, but save room for a signature hot toddy for the ride home.
