What an experience. You have never had Mexican like this before! 10/24/2007

This is one of two places I take out of town guests who come to AZ looking for a unique dining experience. I can't praise this place enough. First off, the atomosphere is incredible (though it can be noisy, that just adds to it in my book). The chefs have an outdoor kitchen that is in a courtyard area, with trees, grass, and tiny kiosks of (cheap) Mexican items for sale. It is next to Ranch Market, which is, I believe, a Mexican grocery store. It's in one huge shopping center, and the restaurant is next to the store, though you would never know it from the inside due to the lovely courtyard area. You can watch them grill meats and veggies outside and see the old women making handmade tortillas. Inside it is lively and large, and well decorated. It's Mexican in style but eclectic. Even the bathrooms are pretty. Now, onto the food. They serve the usual tacos, etc. but the real gems are the Family Style dinners, where you can choose between dinner for 2 or 4 and you get your choice of 3 meats: steak, chicken, chorizo, shrimp, pork, or fish. They bring out sterno candles and platters to keep it warm, and when you get this fajita type plate of steaming, chargrilled meat, with fresh zucchini, tomato halves, whole jalapenos, cactus, green onions, along with a huge bowl of charro beans (yum), a bowl of rice, guacamole, and tortillas, you will think you've found a dinner jackpot. And you have! There is SO MUCH FOOD, the dinner for 4 fed our table with 5 starving adults and a child, and we still had a lot of leftovers. Its nice to get it family style, where you ""pass the ___"" to each other. I recommend the queso w/chorizo for an appetizer, which comes in a crock with great tortillas. Dinner for 4 is only $38 and comes with all the meats, veggies, rice, beans, gauc, and torillas mentioned above. I don't see how they stay in business. Sometimes the pork can be dry which is my ONLY complaint Pros: This is the most unique Mexican I have ever had, and I've had a lot Cons: It can be a long drive, but it's worth it! We drive 25 miles one way to get there. more
