Tourists BEWARE! 3/25/2011

By far, the WORST meal I've eaten in a very, very long time. I'm from Florida and have a pretty good understanding of a ""salty"" seafood joint that's a bit rusty and old and knowing what to expect (not much)... which is exactly what Tony's is. And, I was completely grossed out, disappointed and left hungry. The service it terrible - our waitress was very rude... especially when she demanded that she was correct by bringing a caddy of oil and vinegar when I requested a balsamic vinaigrette... Poor thing The oysters (dear Lord, please forgive me for ordering anything raw at this disgusting place that is only qualified to serve deep fried food that was previously frozen) were sick and the salad was worse. If you like ordering $25 pieces of frozen-then-fried fish from a laminated fluorescent colored menu alongside frozen drink that are served at college binge-drinking establishments, then maybe you will like Tony's. ? Don't waste your time. This is clearly a tourist trap and/or a place that people who have never eaten seafood go to think they're fancy. EW more

This is seafood??!!! 8/10/2008

Bad, Bad, Bad....walk around the pier before eating here. There are plenty of other seafood restaurants that are much better and half the price. Everything from the drinks to the salad to the seafood was bad, if you can call it seafood. Nothing tasted fresh. The salad was dressing was watery. The scenery was nice and we caught a beautiful sunset. Pros: the sunset Cons: the food, the food, the food....oh and did i mention the food. more

perfect view, but food could use some work 3/22/2008

The majority of the reviews on Tony's praise the restaurant for having a great view, which is true--we got to watch a seal darting through the waves right by our table, a heron catching fish, the surf hitting the beach. Given the atmosphere of the place with the low lighting and live music, I expected to be blown away by my $22 charbroiled scallops and clam linguine. It started out good-the cheese garlic bread was tasty enough to eat hand over fist, and the cocktails were also pretty decent (though small). My disappointment began with the dinner salad, which was a couple chunks of iceberg with egg and what tasted like coleslaw sauce. I thought the smoked salmon chowder was amazing, but then again I was really hungry. Once the entree came, I expected to see a little bit more on my plate, not that I have a gigantic gut to fill, but for more than a $20 bill, I had better have to box half of it by the time I'm done eating. Not so. If the garlic bread hadn't been so good, I could have easily polished off that plate with room to spare, and I am a pretty small girl. Quality wise, the scallops were nice; they're pretty hard to screw up. The linguine was a little hard in some spots, soft in others...kinda made me imagine it all came from a giant vat in the back somewhere. I dumped on some salt though, and it was pretty good. \r \r The server was pleasant and friendly, no complaints there.\r \r All in all, it's not as ""freshly made to order"" as I would have expected. But I'd go again..and get something cheaper. Pros: great location Cons: red-lobsterish food more

Best seafood in L.A. and a real romantic spot 12/7/2007

I usually eat out 6 nights a week and have not been here for years. Why I haven't been here for that length of time is now a mystery to me. As soon as I entered the restaurant, deja vu took over and brought back all the memories of when I was in my late teens dining here with my boyfriend (husband now). The food was just as good as I remembered and Carrie, the waitress, was a blast. No nonsense fresh seafood and with soup and salad and baked potato and La Brea Bakery Bread, no one should leave hungry. I intend to make this at least a monthly stop. more

What a view!! Great food and great spot!! 11/28/2007

I would recommend either of the Tony's Restaurants any day. I've been to both locations for dates, birthdays, and family gatherings. Perfect spot to enjoy a beautiful day and great food. Friendly and helpful staff made the experience even better. I highly recommend if you're looking for a new spot in the South Bay. more

Nice atmosphere, high prices 7/8/2006

We dined on a pleasant evening at a table by the water - very nice. The staff was friendly and helpful. The smoked salmon chowder, steamers and crabs were average. The clam chowder and salad dressing tasted like they came out of a can. Overall it was a good dining experience but the food could have been better for the price. Pros: Nice atmosphere Cons: Quality/price disappointing more
