I gave them my price range (I had big budget constraints) and deadline (which was inflexible), but made the mistake of signing a vague estimate. The final cost was three times what I had given as my range, and I had to keep calling to get them to come out to meet the deadline. I never would have hired them had I known what the actual cost would be and I do fault them for taking the job because they had to know they were going to over-run what I could afford to pay. The quality of the workers on the job was generally high - except for one guy working on the front porch trim whose work started bubbling up about three weeks after they left. I now have seersucker porch railings.
