To preface my title I have lived in the city of Pittsburgh for four years and this place is by far the most despicable. The staff is friendly but it is only to mask the shrewd business practices of Marquette Management. A quick background on my situation, I am currently a second year medical student who is living strictly on financial aid and Army funding. When I first found this place I thought it was fantastic, but slowly my opinion has changed. My main and only concern is the lack of compassion, respect, and professionalism from the management company. My car was broken into in late May. My passenger side window was smashed and my GPS stolen. I thought that this was only an isolated incident and chocked it up to my own fault of leaving my GPS in my car. The towers placed signs around the building reminding residents to remove all valuables and stated it will try to improve the security. This morning, June 25, 2010, more of my personal possessions were stolen. My motorcycle wheel chocks and a motorcycle cover were stolen. This is not bad compared to what happened to two other residents who had their motorcycles stolen. Again, the towers deemed it necessary to only place signs warning people to keep possessions in a secure area. This is unacceptable to me and the victims of the crimes. Had the towers placed CCTV cameras at the four entry and exit points in the supposedly secure underground garage after the first robbery, it could have helped locate and prosecute the perpetrators. Instead, the towers and Marquette Management did nothing.
This brings me to my main problem with this cesspool. I decided that my security is not ensured in this place and the company will do nothing to correct this issue. I as a resident decided to move out. My lease ends on July 31, 2010. However, the towers management deems it necessary to require its residents to inform them 60 days prior to the termination of the lease for vacating the apartment. Since recent developments have threatened my safety I felt that the only viable option would be to relocate. I was told that if I did move out I would be responsible for paying rent until August 22, 2010. A full 22 days past the expiration of my lease. The best part of this is that I will not be living here past July 25, 2010, but still I will be required to pay the water, sewage, and waste fees that are automatically included in my rent. I don?t understand this logic.
Please boycott this place and show Marquette Management that they cannot continue their shady business practices in the interest of money. They take full cynical advantage of the people that they persuade to live in these unbearable conditions. No person should be subjected to the cruelties of a company pursuing the only thing that matters to them, MONEY.
