Fantastic Private Party 8/16/2007

Talk about a great place to dine at, Tavern is the destination spot in the Chicago Land Suburbs you most definitely want to get to by train, plane or automobile. The Metra Milwaukee District North Line comes out of Union Station and stops right in Libertyville, one block from the restaurant. If you?re in the suburbs already, that?s wonderful, jump on your motor cycle or climb into your car and get on over to Beautiful Historic Downtown Libertyville and believe me, you?ll be treated by a real gem of a place. As you walk into the door, you will know you?re in a very special place; from the antique wall paper and gas lamp fixtures to the Brunswick bar that greets you. The Tavern will delight your senses, with the smell of awesome food in the air, and a decor that is so warm it immediately relaxes you. Ask for the Wine List and you will begin to know why you have made the trip, with over 700 bottles the list has won several Wine Spectator Awards. As for service, it's easy to see the entire staff really enjoys what they do; they work very hard to accommodate their clientele. We were invited there on a Saturday evening for a Surprise Birthday Party. I can say with certainty, if you are searching for the perfect location for a large group Hors d? oeuvre reception; then look no further. Their upper level serves Private Parties for all occasions. The food was outstanding and the service was well above average, with the staff being very attentive to all the guests needs. It?s been weeks, and we?re still raving about The Tavern. \r \r \r \r Pros: Great all around service! more

The Tavern is absolutely the best place for steaks, wine and service anywhere around. A charming, relaxed atmosphere makes this place one of a kind. Also check out the private dining area for business or larger social functions. Pros: wine list, steaks and service more

Love the Tavern 3/30/2007

The Tavern is just great all around - from the food, to the wine, to the service, to the decor (I especially love the vintage wallpaper and artwork). Try the caviar potato chips - amazing! Ask your server for advice about wine pairings. Pros: Ambience, great menu more

Best steaks anywhere around 3/30/2007

Poor service, very noisy, average food 3/2/2007

We had a problem with excessive noise from people drinking excessively at a table near us. The staff there would not address it. Part of the problem was we didn't get very good service from our wait person. \r They seemed to be spending a great deal of time servicing the table causing the problem. I suppose they may have been counting on a very good tip from them. I talked to the owner Rick a few days later; he wasn't there at the time. He would not accept responsibility for his staff. I had the New York Strip and it was actually pretty good while far from the best I've ever had. I would never go back to this place. Pros: Food was decent Cons: Poor sevice more

Great steaks, great atmosphere 6/11/2006

My husband and I dined at the Tavern over the weekend and we will definately be back soon! They offered not only a great variety of Prime steaks, but also a wide selection of fresh fish and many seasonal items as well (wild Copper River salmon and Maryland soft shell crabs to name a few!). The wine list is spectacular (both bottle and glass) and we were given great suggestions by our server. Not only was the food and service great, but the dining room and decor of the Tavern is so unique; unlike anything else you'll find in the suburbs. We had a great romantic evening and can't wait to go back. Also, check out the upstairs dining room for private parties...gorgeous! Pros: steaks, atmosphere, wine list more

DISAPPOINTED 5/14/2006

May 11 had reservations seated party of 4 cramped tiny table next to where bread was being kept warm. Place was over half empty and this is the table we were seated at with reservations. Table so small/cramped Server was terrible, was told never been here before but recommended from WTTW Check Please, her response was ""everything is alacart"" This was obvios from the menue, not the answer /explanation I was expecting. Was offered warmed bread 3 choices 3""x4"" 1/2"" thick slice 1 piece placed on plate, was very good, had to work hard to get another piece. Steaks came were very good. Terrible experience for the money spent, We will never return Pros: good food, nice atmosphere Cons: terrible server, cramped table, reservation? why more

Quality 5/8/2006

This place is right on Milwaukee Avenue and has parking and access in the back of the building off the busy street...its two stories and has a cozy bar where you can sit waiting for a table if its busy... We had a reservation and were seated right away...on a Saturday night it was crowded but not loud or bustling...the wait staff was a lil young and experienced but not enough to make it unpleasant just a lil amusing...I had the Bone-In Ribeye which was superb and I highly recommend though my wife had the Delmonico which was very good as well...they have this Japanese Beef which is on the menu and looks tasty but we decided to go ""american."" Maybe next time we will be a lil more exotic... Pros: Location, Steaks Cons: Service, small more

Enchanted Evening at Tavern 1/17/2005

My wife and I recently ate at Tavern, formerly known as Tavern In The Town, and we had THE BEST MEAL! Their USDA Prime steak and seafood is among the best I've ever had in the suburbs, and appetizers are amazing: Seared scallops w/lobster mayo and caviar, Acapulco shrimp cocktail, Caviar potato chips - delicious choices! Great wine list. I had no idea this restaurant has been around for over 21 years (a true hidden gem). Once you walk in (entrance around back of building), you enter a magical place of colored beads, an enourmous antique bar, and the coolest lighting - an antique/vintage feel. Met Owners Rick & Linda, who seated us immediately. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a great meal, romantic setting, and service with a smile. Tavern is casual fine dining at its best. I'm going back, again and again! Pros: Great Food & Service, Fantastic Decor, Huge wine list Cons: , Challenging to find, Not meant for kids more

Restaurant 1/16/2005

The decor is the best I've ever seen in a restaurant. The food is outstanding and lives up to the decor. The service is personable and reliable. A true hidden gem! Pros: Incredible Ambiance, Succulent Steak, Friendly Service more
