Don't Order Anything ""Complicated"" 1/3/2009

Since we live only a few blocks away my boyfriend and I decided to check out Speakeasy for brunch. We ordered eggs... poached. After waiting about a half hour (and watching people who ordered food after us get their food) our waiter said not to worry our food would be out very soon. Twenty minutes later we were still waiting. We asked our very nice waiter where our food was and he apologized saying that it takes a long time to poach an egg. I've poached eggs at home before and it shouldn't take anymore than ten minutes at the very most. We waited another ten minutes before telling our waiter we were going to leave. They comped the two rounds of mimosas but by that time we were both STARVING and had to go find food elsewhere. If they have someone in the kitchen that can't poach an egg ... i don't want to try eating anything else they're serving. Pros: Nice waiter staff Cons: Incompetent kitchen staff more

Stay away 12/21/2008

I also had the same problem with the mussels. The beard was still on and the mussels were totally off. I complained to the waitress and after smelling them she agreed they were bad.She asked if I wanted some thing else and I ordered the crab cake ,just because I wanted to give them another chance. The it was small ,burned and had shells in it ....I was so upset . I asked for my check and they still charged for the crabcake even though I only to one small bite .I told them ....yes told them to take it off or There would be trouble. Do not go to this place ......they should take there chef out back and shout him. Pros: nice lookin place Cons: they will poisin you more

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm 6/19/2008

I finally went to Speakeasy last night. Inexcusable that it took me so long, considering that I live about 5 steps away. It was DELICIOUS! I had the short ribs and they were so good that I made myself pack up 1/2 of it for lunch because I figured anything that delicious must be very fattening. :) My bf had the lamb and it was also very good. I don't even like lamb and I thought it was pretty awesome. We had the calamari for an appetizer which was a little on the chewy side...but we still ate the entire dish. Pros: Delicious Cons: A bit pricey for Brooklyn more

WOW 5/20/2008

I came by for a Quick beer and stayed for dinner. Having traveled all over the world I am very picky with my food and drinks. I must say that this beautiful brooklyn eatery was so much better than I expected. Thumbs up to the bartender , server and the person in charge of the beautiful decor Pros: Everything Cons: Only one locationnn!!! more

Great Experience 5/20/2008

I 've visited the speakeasy twice, and both times I must say it was amazing. The brunch was excellent .I had the guava french toast, and for someone who doesnt eat anybody's french toast it was great. The braised short ribs for dinner are super tender , and the cocktais were um, um, good. Also the decor was great the ceilings must be hand painted. You gotta check this place out!!!!!!!!! Pros: Service, Drinks, Decor and Food Cons: Large Portions more

Terrible food, terrible service, the worst meal in all of Ft. Greene 3/13/2008

We had high hopes for this place, but it was a tremendous disappointment. My husband and I ordered Speakeasy for delivery; we were looking forward to a nice dinner together after our young baby went to bed. It was simply terrible. The muscles were not cleaned, had their beards intact, and were inedible; the salmon was WAY over cooked; the portions were ridiculously small. We immediately called to complain -- and called, and called, and called, but couldn't get anyone to pick up the phone for well over an hour (this was 8:30 on a Thursday night). Finally we gave up and cut our losses. Never again. DO NOT GO HERE. DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE. Save your time and your money. Pros: So far, no botulisim Cons: Everything about our Speakeasy experience more
