Tacky, tacky, tacky -- well maybe not that bad but mostly hype 9/9/2006

Yes, it's the Ritz Carlton but not like your mothers. Good Service there? Depends on the time of the day or the day of the week, you never know what you'll run into, it's probably better than most service you'll get in South Beach. There are a lots of jewels there (ie: people who love their job and give great service) but more often than not there are people who are a little above average or average and a few below average. Classy yes, but I've seen better more comfortable rooms in Vegas (and for much cheaper rates). And there are stains on the hallway carpets. (Ever heard of a carpet cleaner guys?) The concierge's are all snobby (well not all of them just most of them) the bellman are very outgoing, the pool is a lot of fun and beautiful (if you can get a chair). Never go there on a holiday you ain't getting a chair if you do go on a weekend or holiday. The service as the pool is above average, people are doing their job but very few outgoing personalities. The manager there is a little red headed lady and she is extraordinary and loves her job (wish her employees did) granted it is hot out there so it's hard for them to keep a smiling face. But you will get a smiling face if you tip them a $10 or a $20. Don't forget to tip these people, they do work hard. Over all if you want to go to the Ritz just to say you stayed there go for it, the best time to go for cheap rates is in the summer and early fall (Hurricane Season) but bring cash with you and don't forget to tip everyone as you go along and (Remember this is the Ritz so a couple of bucks or even five bucks is kind of cheap compared to what these people who work there are used to.) Reality check: tip them well and you'll get great service. Pros: it is the Ritz after all Cons: inconsistent great service, sometimes wonderful, other times ok (every once in a while bad) more
